Description

Nobody has hunted a mammoth for about four thousand years, so this trophy is a little late. It's also completely soft. This plush mammoth head is faux taxidermy sewn by hand: shaggy ginger hair, a long ribbed trunk and two big tusks you can squeeze. No animal was harmed, and none could be. The woolly mammoth has been extinct since long before anyone thought of wall mounts.

It was made to order. We don't keep ready heads on a shelf. Each one is built for one person, one wall and one idea.

Yes, we thought of the mammoth from Ice Age too. This one has its own face, though. Big round googly eyes with green irises peer out from under heavy lids. A red tongue hangs out under the trunk, which makes the whole trophy look a bit surprised to be on your wall.

The face and trunk are covered in mottled ginger and caramel plush, and the trunk is built from thick soft rolls down to a pale beige tip. A mop of long shaggy ginger hair falls over the top and back of the head. The two curved cream-white tusks are sewn from fabric, so they look impressive and are soft to the touch. Rounded ears with beige insides finish the look.

The same design, ten years apart

This mammoth isn't new to us. We first drew it and sewed it in 2012, then made it again in 2022. Same design, ten years apart. The 2012 head had a spiky blond tuft and googly eyes with blue pupils; the 2022 one got a ginger mop and green eyes. Both stick their tongues out. You'll find the 2012 head and our first concept drawing at the end of the photos.

For the country house, or the odd city flat

Plush taxidermy started as a joke on the hunting lodge, and it fits a country-house interior perfectly: over the fireplace, in a hallway, above a bar. It works just as well in an eccentric city apartment that needs one thing guests will ask about. In our photos the mammoth simply hangs on a wooden door. Hang it where your friends will see it first, or keep it for yourself and grin at it every morning.

Extinct, imaginary or your own idea

That's the fun of faux taxidermy. A real mount needs a real animal. Ours needs only an idea, so a long-gone mammoth is as easy as a moose, and a unicorn or a creature you drew yourself works too. Materials used

This mammoth head is made of faux fur, soft plush and fabric, with stuffing inside. We never use real fur, and nothing on this trophy came from an animal.

Curved tusks sewn from cream-white fabric and stuffed, soft rather than hard.

For your own mammoth we can change the fur colour, make the tusks longer or shorter, or give the face a calmer or crazier look. A wall trophy doesn't get hugged much, so a soft brush now and then keeps the long hair tidy. A gentle spot clean handles the rest, never the washing machine.

Lead time

A plush trophy head like this usually takes 2–4 weeks. That range leaves room for the small surprises that come with anything sewn by hand.

First we agree the look with you: which animal, how big, the fur colours and the face. Then the pattern is drawn, the head and trunk are sewn and stuffed, the tusks are made, and the eyes go on last, because they decide the whole character.

Delivery

We ship worldwide. Once the mammoth leaves our workshop, delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country and your customs office.

Around Christmas and other holidays the post slows down everywhere. If the head is a gift, or you want it up for a party, order a little earlier than feels necessary.

The easiest way is to mention your date when you ask for a quote. Then the sewing time and the shipping time are planned together before we cut any fur.
