The fox on this page
She sits upright like a real red fox waiting for something interesting to happen. The coat is ginger with darker rust shading along the back, and the chest and cheeks disappear into a big, fluffy white ruff.
We kept the details a real fox has. Her lower legs and paws are dark chocolate brown, like the "stockings" red foxes wear. The ears are white inside with dark rims. The bushy tail ends in a clean white tip, and it wraps around her paws when she sits.
She's poseable, so she doesn't have to sit the same way forever. And she comes home in a forest-style collector box, ready for a shelf or a gift.
In the later photos she also got long dark whiskers. The last picture in the gallery is the drawing she was made from.
About that beauty mark
Right beside her nose there's a tiny pale dot. It's her beauty mark, and it changes the whole face. Without it she's a pretty fox. With it she's a flirt.
In 18th-century France, fashionable ladies stuck tiny patches on their cheeks and called them mouches, "flies". Our fox wears hers the same way: small, on purpose, and a little cheeky.
Why felting takes so long
Needle felting means stabbing loose wool thousands of times with a barbed needle until the fibres lock into a firm shape. Plenty of people buy a felting kit, make one lopsided fox, stab a thumb and give up. Anyone who has tried knows how many hours go into a face like this one.
A realistic fox is the hard version. The muzzle, the eyelids and the colour blending all have to be right, or she stops looking alive. When they are right, people look twice and ask if she's real.

This fox is made from felted wool with stuffing inside. No sewing machine and no fabric pattern: the shape is built up by hand with a felting needle, layer by layer. She's also poseable, so you can change her pose once she's home.
Wool is what makes her look so alive. It can be blended like paint, which is how the ginger coat fades into darker rust on the back and into dark brown on the legs. Loose fibres on top give the soft, fuzzy look of a real fox coat.

First we agree the look with you: pose, size, colours, the expression you want. Then the fox is felted by hand, the body first, then the head and face. The face takes the longest. A few stabs too many and the eyes look sleepy instead of sly.
You get photos of the finished fox before she's packed, so you see her before she leaves us.
