This Horton plush is the big, kind elephant from Horton Hears a Who!, about 50 cm (20 in) tall, with the pink clover that holds a whole town on a speck of dust. We make him to order. Nothing sits on a shelf here: your Horton is cut and sewn after you ask for him, in the size and details you want.

Plenty of people met Horton twice: in the picture book at bedtime, then in the 2008 film at school. Fans still call it a core memory. Some grew up with a plain stuffed elephant they simply named Horton. This one actually looks like him.

The elephant who keeps his word

Dr. Seuss's book came out in 1954. In the Jungle of Nool, Horton hears a tiny voice from a speck of dust. It's Whoville, a town too small to see. The Sour Kangaroo and the other animals call him crazy and want to boil the speck. Horton guards it anyway, because "a person's a person, no matter how small." Fans also love him from Horton Hatches the Egg (1940), where he sits on a nest through storms and winter because an elephant is "faithful, one hundred per cent." In 2008 Blue Sky Studios made the animated film, with Jim Carrey as Horton.

At this size he fills an armchair or a reading corner, and a child can hug him like a friend. We made this one in 2023.

Materials used

Horton is sewn from premium fabrics picked to match his storybook look:

Soft grey plush for the body, trunk and the back of the ears
Pale pink fabric for the ear linings and the foot pads
Faux fur for his black hair tuft, the tail tip and the fluffy pink clover
Green fabric for the clover's stem

The filling is hypoallergenic, so he's fine for a child's bed or a classroom reading nook. The trunk is soft enough to bend around the clover. We only use faux fur, never real fur. Want a bluer grey, a brighter clover or a different shade inside the ears? Tell us at the start, along with extras like a sound module or an embroidered name.

Lead time

A Horton plush usually takes 2–4 weeks to make.

First the pattern, so the long trunk and big ears stay in proportion to the round body. Then the ears get their pink linings and scalloped edges, the feet get their pads and toes, and the clover is made as its own little piece.

The face comes last: the eyes, the brows and the angle of the trunk. That's where the worried, gentle Horton shows up. The time frame has a small reserve for handmade surprises. Got a birthday in mind? Say so in your first message.

Delivery

We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Around the holidays couriers slow down, so allow extra time.

Giving Horton with a copy of the book to a child who's just learning to read? Add the making time and delivery together and count back from the date. For Christmas, order by November 1.

Before he leaves, we send you photos of the finished toy. He's packed so the ears and the clover arrive in shape.

A Horton has to look kind. If the eyes or the trunk are slightly off, he turns into just another grey elephant. That's why you see photos of your Horton before he ships. If you still don't love him, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Not sure about the size, the pose or the shade of grey? Ask before we start. It's much easier to get a detail right in the pattern than to fix it later.
