This Ice Age Buck plush head is a small faux taxidermy trophy, needle-felted by hand from wool and mounted on a wooden plaque. It was made to order, like everything we sew. Plenty of people remember him as "the possum with the leaf". Close. Crash and Eddie are the possums. Buck is their friend, a one-eyed weasel.

Who Buck is

Buck first showed up in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009), voiced by Simon Pegg. He lives in a hidden world of dinosaurs under the ice, lost an eye to a huge dinosaur called Rudy, and covers the empty socket with a leaf. In 2022 he got his own film on Disney+, The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, where he rescues Crash and Eddie.

What we felted

The look is the one fans know: a green leaf pulled over one eye, its stem hanging down past the cheek, and one round blue eye staring out of a mauve patch of fur. Below that sit a big rust-brown nose, a cream-white muzzle and a crooked grin with two long fangs and four small front teeth. The dark brown ears stick out wide, and one has a notch bitten out of the edge.

It's plush-and-wool "taxidermy": you get a favourite character at home, and not a single weasel (or possum) was harmed.

Materials used

Buck is needle-felted from wool, layer by layer, by hand. Wool is shorn from sheep, so no animal was hurt for this trophy, and we never use real fur on any toy.

Wool: the cream-white muzzle, the mauve fur around the eye, the rust-brown nose and lips, the dark brown ears and the green leaf with its lighter patches

Felted wool is firmer than plush, so the face keeps its shape on the wall: the grin stays crooked and the leaf stays put. For your own trophy we can change the character, the colours or the expression. A wall piece doesn't get hugged much, so a soft dry brush now and then keeps the dust off. No washing machine.

Lead time

A felted trophy head like this usually takes 2–3 weeks. Handwork sometimes needs a few extra days, and the estimate leaves room for that.

First we agree the look with you: which character, which expression, what colours. Then the head is felted up from loose wool, the small hard details are sculpted, and everything goes onto the plaque. The eye goes on near the end, because it decides whether the face looks right.
