Who is Fat Cat in Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers?
Fat Cat is the grey tabby who ran the animal underworld in Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers. He isn't from a movie. He's from the TV series created by Tad Stones and Alan Zaslove, which premiered on The Disney Channel in March 1989 and joined The Disney Afternoon in 1990, 65 episodes in all.
He shows up in the very first story, Rescue Rangers: To the Rescue, as the pet cat of the gangster Aldrin Klordane. Klordane goes to jail. Fat Cat keeps the business going. Around people he plays the spoiled house cat; around animals he's the boss, with his gang: Wart the lizard, slow-witted Mole, Mepps the orange alley cat and Snout the rat.
Jim Cummings voiced him, then did it again for a cameo in the 2022 Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers movie on Disney+. NES kids know him from Capcom's 1990 game, where Chip and Dale stop yet another of his schemes.
A villain people still ask for
Ask grown-ups for their favorite childhood villain and Fat Cat comes up a lot. The joke is what fans love: a mobster's cat who became a mobster himself. The heroes got the toys, though. The only official Fat Cat plush we could find is a palm-sized Tsum Tsum from a 2018 Rescue Rangers set sold at Disney Stores in Japan. A Fat Cat who stands on his own feet, suit and all, has to be made.

The face takes longest. His yellow eyes, the head stripes and that toothy grin decide whether he reads as Fat Cat or as some grey cat in a jacket, so we don't rush them.
