Nobody would ever hang a real lemur on the wall. This one is fine. It's a lemur head wall mount in soft faux taxidermy, needle-felted from wool: a ring-tailed lemur on a dark wooden plaque, looking up past you with big amber eyes as if something much more interesting just walked in.

It was made to order, like everything here. We don't keep a shelf of ready heads: each one is for one person, and yours can look the way you picture it.

The lemur everyone recognizes

Ring-tailed lemurs live in the wild only in Madagascar, and the species is listed as endangered. Most people know the face anyway, from zoo trips, nature films or King Julien in DreamWorks' Madagascar. A white face, black patches round the eyes, a dark pointed muzzle and that wide, slightly startled stare.

A trophy head of an animal like that would be unthinkable. As a soft wall piece it's a small joke with a kind ending: the look of a hunting-lodge mount, and not one animal hurt for it.

What we got right

The face is where a lemur either works or doesn't, so that's where the time went.

A wall of soft trophies

The lemur hangs in our plush faux taxidermy collection next to a grinning moose head, a shaggy mammoth head and the famous Stoned Fox. Any animal can become a wall head: a pet, a favourite zoo animal, something from a book.

Materials used

This lemur head is needle-felted by hand from wool, with stuffing inside, then mounted on a real wooden plaque. We never use real fur. Wool is shorn from sheep, not taken from a hide, so no animal was hurt for this trophy.

The loose wool fibres at the edges make it read like real lemur fur from a distance. It's a wall piece, not a toy for rough play. Dust it gently with a soft brush now and then, and keep it out of strong direct sun so the white stays white.

Lead time

A lemur head like this usually takes 2–4 weeks. Handmade work sometimes needs the extra week.

First we agree the look with you: size, colours, the angle of the head, the plaque. Then the head is shaped, the white, grey and black wool is needle-felted on layer by layer, and the eyes go in last. They decide whether it looks like a lemur or just a fluffy mask.

You get photos of the finished head before it's packed. If it's for a housewarming or a birthday, tell us the date at the start and we'll say right away whether it fits.

Delivery

We ship worldwide. Once the lemur leaves our workshop, delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country and customs.

Around Christmas and other holidays the post slows down everywhere. A wall trophy that no one saw coming makes a very good present, so if it's meant for a date, order a little earlier than feels necessary.

The easiest way is to mention the date when you ask for a quote. We plan the making time and the shipping time together before we start, and pack the head so the ears and the plaque arrive in one piece.
