Look for a realistic black cat plush and you'll mostly find round cartoon kittens, or a black blob with two yellow buttons. Black is hard to get right. In a photo a black cat turns into a dark shape with eyes, and a toy can do the same. So the coat here is long-pile faux fur with a slight sheen, the inner ears are pink, and the pale green eyes sit where a real cat's would. The body holds a pose: standing with the tail straight up, sitting with paws together, stretched out on its side or rolled over with one paw in the air.

In Britain and Japan a black cat crossing your path is good luck. The UK even has a National Black Cat Day on October 27, started in 2011 by the charity Cats Protection, because black cats wait longer than others to find a home. Ours wait for nobody. Each one is made for the person who asked.

The coat is a long-pile black faux fur that catches the light the way a real black cat's fur does. We only work with faux fur, never real fur. Prefer the matte look of felted wool? That works too.

A lifelike black cat usually takes 2–4 weeks to make.
First comes the pattern: leg length, the curve of the back, a tail long enough to stand straight up. Then the body is sewn around the frame. The face is last and slowest. A few millimeters in how the eyes are set decide whether the cat looks curious, sleepy or a bit offended.
For a copy of your own cat, we check against your photos as we go. The time frame includes a small reserve for handmade surprises, so if you have a date in mind, put it in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the courier. Before a holiday couriers get busy, and parcels can take longer.
A black cat fits a lot of dates: a birthday, Halloween, National Black Cat Day on October 27, or the anniversary of a cat you miss. Add the making time to the delivery time and count back from your date. For Christmas, place your order by November 1.
