The room is on fire. The dog sits at his table with a cup of coffee and says "This is fine." Everyone has had that day. This This Is Fine dog plush is that dog, with his little hat, his big round eyes and the mug. We made him to order from the meme picture, and that's how every toy here starts. We don't keep ready-made dogs in stock.

Where the dog comes from

The dog was drawn by cartoonist KC Green. He comes from "On Fire," a six-panel strip in Green's webcomic Gunshow, posted on 9 January 2013. The dog even has a name: Question Hound. A year later the first two panels went around Reddit, and since then "this is fine" has been the go-to answer to deadlines, bad news and inboxes that won't stop filling up.

What we sewed

We copied him straight from the picture:

  • A small tan hat with a black band and a wavy brim
  • Big white eyes with black pupils, a round black nose and long black ears
  • The calm, slightly lost face that makes the meme work
  • A white mug with "THIS IS FINE" stitched on it, filled with black coffee

He sits on his own and holds the mug in his paw.

Your own fine dog

Want him on your work desk, on the sofa, or as a gift for the coworker who says "it's fine" a little too often? Tell us the size. We can also put a name on the mug, add a sound module or a frame inside so he holds a pose. Some people want a few plush flames around him too. We can do that. You get photos of the finished toy before it ships.

The Cat in Bread and the Dracula Cat are other memes we turned into toys. More comic characters are in Comics Characters.

We're an independent studio. This is a handmade fan piece, not an official KC Green product.

The dog is sewn from premium plush with a short, soft pile, in the warm tan of the comic.

  • Tan plush for the body, the face and the hat
  • Black plush for the long ears and the nose
  • White and black fabric for the big cartoon eyes
  • A black ribbon band around the hat
  • Fluffy white plush for the mug, with the words stitched in black thread, and black fabric for the coffee

The filling is hypoallergenic. If you'd like fur anywhere, it's faux fur only. Want a different shade, your own words on the mug or a sound module inside? Tell us at the start, because those go in while we sew.

A This Is Fine dog plush usually takes 2–4 weeks to make.

We start with a pattern drawn from the comic, so the long snout, the round body and the short arms keep the cartoon shape. The hat and the mug are small jobs of their own.

The face comes last. The whole joke is in that calm look, so we place the eyes and the nose by hand until he looks just as unbothered as in the picture. The time frame has a small reserve for handmade surprises, so if you have a date in mind, put it in your first message.

We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Around the holidays parcels move slower, so leave a little extra time.

This dog is a classic office gift: a coworker's birthday, a farewell, the end of a hard project, Secret Santa. Add the making time to the delivery time and count back from your date. For Christmas, order by November 1.

Before he leaves the studio, you get photos of the finished toy. We pack him so the hat and the mug arrive in shape.

We've been making custom plush since 2009. People know this picture by heart. If the hat sat wrong or the eyes were off, you'd notice in a second.

That's why you see photos of your dog before he ships. If you don't love him, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Want a version of your own, say in a different outfit or holding something else? Send us a sketch or a screenshot and ask before we start. It's easier to get a detail right in the pattern than to change it later.

Why?

No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.

Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.

Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.

You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.

One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.

That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
