A kitten with its face poking through a slice of white bread, eyes wide, looking up like it has no idea how it got there. That's the cat in bread meme, and this is our cat bread plush of it. We made it to order, from the picture, the way we make every toy here. Nothing sits on a shelf waiting for a buyer.
Where the meme came from
The first breaded cat photo went up on Reddit and Tumblr on 2 August 2011. The name is a pun: a cat in bread is an "inbread cat". By January 2012 Gawker was calling it a hot new internet meme, and people everywhere were trying it on their own cats. Some still are. "We breaded our cat one time" is a sentence a lot of cat owners have typed.
What we made
We went for a realistic look, close to toy taxidermy, so the kitten looks like it could blink. Even the bread looks real.
- A long-haired grey and white kitten with a white chest and white paws
- Glossy yellow-green eyes, a pink nose and long white whiskers
- A bushy grey tail with a white underside
- A slice of toy bread with a golden crust edge and a round hole for the face
The slice comes off. With it, the kitten is the meme. Without it, you have a fluffy kitten that sits and looks up at you.
The meme cat, or your cat
You can order this kitten as it is, from the meme picture. Or send us photos of your own cat, and we'll make a plush twin of your pet with its face through the bread. Your cat gets breaded for life, and it never has to sit still for it.
Tell us the size you want and any extras: a frame inside so the cat holds a pose, a collar or name tag, a different eye color. We send you photos of the finished toy before it ships.
Collecting internet cats? The Dracula Cat is the vampire cat meme in a cape, and the Stoned Fox is another meme we turned into a toy.
We're an independent studio with no link to the cat in the original photo or its owners. This is a handmade fan piece.
Realistic cats like this one are made by hand from premium materials, picked to match the coat in the picture. Depending on how fluffy and how detailed you want it, we work with faux fur or needle-felted wool. We only use faux fur, never real fur.
- Long, soft fur in grey and white, layered so the coat looks fluffy and natural
- Glossy eyes in the color you choose: yellow-green as here, or your cat's own
- Long white whiskers and a pink nose
- A toy bread slice with a golden crust edge, made to fit around the face
The filling is hypoallergenic. On request we add a flexible frame inside so the cat holds a pose, or a collar with a name tag.
A cat bread plush usually takes 2β4 weeks to make.
The kitten comes first: the body shape, the coat colors laid out the way they are in the picture, the tail. Then the face. That part takes the longest, because the meme lives in the expression, and the eyes have to look up at the same startled angle.
The bread slice is a small job of its own. It has to sit around the face neatly and still come off easily. If it's a copy of your own cat, we check it against your photos as we go. The time frame has a small reserve for handmade surprises, so if you have a date in mind, put it in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7β20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Around the holidays couriers get busy, and parcels can take longer.
A breaded cat makes a good birthday joke for the friend who sends cat memes all day, or a gift for someone who still has the photo of their own cat in a slice of toast. Add the making time to the delivery time and count back from your date. For Christmas, order by November 1.
Before it leaves the studio, you get photos of the finished toy. We pack it so the whiskers and the bread arrive in shape.
We've been making custom plush since 2009. Meme toys are a good test for us. Everyone knows the picture, so a wrong eye shape or a sloppy crust shows right away.
That's why you see photos of your cat in bread before it ships. If you don't love it, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.
If you're ordering a copy of your own cat, send as many photos as you have: the face from the front, the coat from the side, the tail. The more we see, the closer the likeness. Not sure which photos help most? Ask us before we start.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
