A customer sent us an old photo of the toys from their childhood: vintage stuffed dogs in a deep raspberry color. Nothing like them was left to buy. So we made them again, by hand, from that one picture.
That's how everything here works. Each toy is made to order for one person, from the photos and memories they send us. We don't keep a stock of ready-made dogs.
A whole dog family
This wasn't a single toy. It's a set:
- A big dog with a stitched dark collar and a metal ring
- Three puppies, each with its own head tilt and floppy ears
- Shiny black eyes and noses on all four
No two puppies came out exactly alike. They're handmade, so they never do.
Getting the vintage look right
What makes an old toy look old is the fabric. These dogs are sewn from crushed velvet. The pile lies in different directions, so it catches light in darker and brighter patches, a bit like a well-loved plush that's been stroked for decades.
The shapes are simple on purpose: a rounded body, straight legs with a seam down the front, long ears sewn on separately.
Got an old photo of your own?
People search for "vintage stuffed dog" with every color and decade they can think of, hoping the same toy turns up online. Sometimes it does. When it doesn't, we can sew it from your picture.
Send whatever you have, even one blurry snapshot. Tell us the size you remember, from about 20 cm to 60 cm and more, or the same as the original, and whether you want one toy or the whole family. You'll get photos of the finished toys to approve before we ship.
More toys we've sewn from old photos are in Lost Toy Replicas, like this black-and-white childhood puppy. Still hoping to find the original? Read our tips on tracking down a lost stuffed animal first.
The dogs are sewn from raspberry crushed velvet. It has a short, shiny pile that shifts between dark wine and bright raspberry depending on the light, which gives the set its old-fashioned look.
- Shiny black eyes and noses
- A dark faux leather collar with white stitching and a metal ring on the big dog
- Hypoallergenic filling, firm enough for the dogs to sit up on their own
Your old toy might have been mohair, faux fur or plain cotton plush. We pick the fabric that comes closest to your photo, and we can match colors, add a collar or tag, or embroider a name or date. Say so at the start, because those details go in while we sew.
One dog like these usually takes 2β4 weeks. For a full set, we confirm the time frame in your quote.
The first step is reading the old photo: how big the head is next to the body, where the eyes sit, how far down the ears hang. Then we draw the pattern, cut the fabric and sew each dog by hand.
The time frame includes a reserve for handmade surprises. If the dogs are a gift for a birthday or a family reunion, mention the date in your first message.
Shipping takes 7β20 business days, depending on where you live. Around the holidays the post slows down, so allow a few extra days.
Replicas of childhood toys often end up as Christmas presents for a parent or a grown-up sibling. For delivery before Christmas, order by November 1.
Before anything ships, you get photos of the finished toys. Put them next to your old picture and check the color, the ears and the collar. If something looks off, we fix it first.
We've been sewing toys to order since 2009. Bringing back toys that only exist in old photos is a regular part of that work.
You approve the finished toys from photos before they ship, so there's time to change a detail you remember differently: a darker shade, a longer ear, a different collar.
And if the dogs arrive and don't feel right to you, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
