This puppy started as one childhood photo: a black-and-white dog with a big red bow, held up in someone's arms next to a Christmas tree full of tinsel. The customer asked us to recreate the childhood stuffed animal from that picture. Here it is.

Nothing on this page was waiting on a shelf. Every toy we make is made to order, for one person, from the photos they send us.

Working from one old photo

Old childhood photo the customer sent: the original stuffed puppy with a red bow by a Christmas tree

Old photos are blurry, the colors drift, and half the toy is hidden in somebody's arms. So we read what the picture shows and work out the rest the way the toy most likely looked. For this puppy that meant:

  • A black body with white paws and a white muzzle
  • A tan patch over one eye and a tan ear, with the other ear black and lined in white
  • Blue eyes, a black nose and a little red tongue
  • A red bow tie under the chin and a short black tail

Why people want the old one back

Plenty of childhood stuffed animals don't make it to adulthood. They get lost in a move, left at grandma's, or quietly disappear while you're away at college. Years later you still remember the bow and the floppy ears. Sentimental value doesn't care how old you are.

If a family photo is all that's left, that's usually enough to start.

Send us your photo

Dig out whatever you have: a birthday snapshot, a holiday picture, a drawing from memory. More angles help, but one photo can work. Tell us roughly how big the toy was, from about 20 cm up to 60 cm and more, or the same size as the original. Before we ship, you get photos of the finished toy to approve.

More toys sewn from old photos are in Lost Toy Replicas, including a tamagotchi pet we made from a few pixels on a screen. Still hoping to find the original? Start with our article on lost stuffed animals.

The puppy is sewn from premium soft faux fur in three colors. Black covers the body and one ear. White goes on the muzzle, the paws and the ear lining. A warm tan marks the eye patch and the other ear, which has a fluffier pile and flops the way a well-hugged ear should.

  • A red bow tie under the chin, the detail everyone remembers
  • Blue eyes, a black nose and a small red tongue
  • Hypoallergenic filling, soft enough to squeeze

Want it closer to your own photo? We can change the colors, embroider a name or a date, or add a sound module. Tell us at the start, since these go in while we sew.

A replica like this usually takes 2–4 weeks.

Most of that time goes into the face. With an old photo we first work out proportions: how big the head is next to the body, where the eyes sit, how low the ears hang. Then we make the pattern, cut the fur and sew by hand.

The time frame includes a small reserve for handmade surprises. If the toy is a birthday or anniversary gift, put the date in your first message.

Shipping takes 7–20 business days, depending on where you live. Around the holidays the post slows down, so allow a few extra days.

That matters for toys like this one. A lot of childhood photos are taken by the Christmas tree, and a lot of these replicas end up as Christmas gifts. For delivery before Christmas, order by November 1.

Before the puppy leaves us, we send you photos of the finished toy. Hold them up next to your old picture and tell us if anything should change.

We've been sewing toys to order since 2009, and lost childhood toys are some of the most personal orders we get.

You see the finished replica in photos before it ships, so there's still time to fix a detail you remember differently: a darker patch, a longer ear, a brighter bow.

And if it arrives and doesn't feel right to you, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason. No need to explain.

Why?

No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.

Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.

Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.

You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.

One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.

That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
