This tamagotchi plush started with a husband's idea. His wife had a tamagotchi as a kid, the little virtual pet you fed and cleaned up after, and she lost it somewhere in her childhood. For her birthday he wanted that pet back. Only bigger, and soft enough to hold.

So we sewed it. Nothing like this sat on a shelf: every toy here is made to order, from the pictures one customer sends us.

From a few pixels to a plush

The pixel pterodactyl on a virtual pet screen, the lost childhood pet our custom tamagotchi plush was sewn from

All we had to go on was a photo of the screen: a tiny white pterodactyl drawn in black pixels, plus a picture of the same pet drawn bigger. Turning that into a toy means guessing nothing and deciding a lot. How round the eyes are. Where the wings fold. What a pixel beak looks like in fabric.

Here's what we ended up with:

  • White plush body and wings, with grey edges along the top of the wings
  • Big black glossy eyes and a grey patch on the belly
  • Little claws on the wings and black claws on the feet
  • A grey backpack with black straps that clips on and off

It came back the way the customer put it: the same pet, only it grew up a lot. And now she can touch it.

Another lost toy from the tamagotchi years

This red-pink baby in a bunny suit is from the same era, when every kid had a button toy with a virtual pet on a keychain. The original was lost, and all that was left was one old, worn photo. Our artist drew a sketch over it, the customer approved the look, and then we sewed it. White ears and paws, a purple ribbon loop on the head, and "I love you" embroidered in Russian on the belly.

Your lost pet, your way

Tamagotchi first came out in Japan in November 1996 and reached the US in May 1997. A lot of us lost ours, or let it die one too many times. Send us whatever you have: a photo of the screen, an old family picture, a drawing from memory. If you'd like, we'll sketch it first. Size, colors and extras like a backpack or an embroidered message are up to you. Before we ship, you get photos of the finished toy.

We're an independent studio. Tamagotchi is a Bandai trademark, and this is a handmade fan piece, not an official Bandai product.

The pet is sewn from premium soft plush: white for the body, the head and the wings, grey for the wing edges and the belly patch. Bright and clean, like the white pixels on the screen.

  • Big black glossy eyes and black claws, so the face and feet read from across the room
  • Small claws on the wings, the way the pixel pet holds them
  • A removable grey backpack with black straps and plastic clip buckles

The filling is hypoallergenic. Any fur we use is faux fur. You can also ask for an embroidered name or message, a sound module or LED eyes. Tell us at the start, since they go in while we sew.

A plush like this usually takes 2–4 weeks.

First we work out the shape. A pixel pet is flat, so we decide how it looks in 3D, and if you'd like, our artist draws a sketch for you to approve. Then comes the pattern, the cutting and the sewing.

The face comes last: eyes a little too small or too far apart, and it stops looking like your pet. The time frame includes a small reserve for handmade surprises. Got a birthday date? Mention it in your first message.

We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Around the holidays couriers get slower, so leave extra time.

A lost childhood pet makes a strong birthday or anniversary surprise. Add the making time to the delivery time and count back from the day. For Christmas, order by November 1.

Before the toy leaves, we send you photos of it. We pack it so the wings, the claws and the backpack arrive in shape.

We've been sewing custom plush since 2009. A lot of our work starts from a blurry old photo or a few pixels on a screen, like this pet did.

You'll see photos of your toy before it ships, so you can check it against what you remember. If you still don't love it, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Not sure your photo is good enough? Send it anyway and ask. Old, dark or tiny pictures have worked before, and a question is cheaper to answer before we cut the fabric than after.

Why?

No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.

Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.

Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.

You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.

One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.

That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
