That's this doll: a custom cartoon doll made to order for one girl, sewn from her photo and from frames of the cartoon. We don't keep a shelf of ready Gadgets. She was made once, for one birthday.

Our first look-alike toy

We made her in 2011, and back then we proudly called her the first toy in the world with a portrait likeness. At least, we had never heard of one before. Since then look-alike dolls have become a big part of what we do, but this one started it.

Why Gadget

Rescue Rangers first aired in 1989: two chipmunks, their friends, and Gadget Hackwrench, the team's pilot and mechanic who builds whatever the job needs. People still say "she looks like Gadget from Rescue Rangers" about a girl with that bright, can-do energy. He and his girlfriend both loved the show, so the choice made itself.

Her Gadget, not the cartoon one

In the show Gadget is blonde. This one has long dark hair, a red flower over one ear, a blue velvet jumpsuit with a purple sash, and a face painted to look like the birthday girl, with big eyes that look up and to the side and a small, slightly crooked smile. The mouse ears and the long pink tail stay. It's a cartoon character and a portrait in one doll.

Your person, your cartoon

Materials used

The face and hands are sewn from soft pale pink cloth, and the face is painted by hand: peach cheeks, thin dark brows, long black lashes and a red smile. The eyes are big glossy domes with brown irises, set looking up and to the side, which gives her that dreamy Gadget look.

Her hair is long dark yarn, stitched strand by strand so it hangs loose like real hair. The round ears and the long tail are soft pink fleece-like plush, with darker pink inside the ears.

Lead time

A look-alike doll like this usually takes 2–4 weeks. Some toys are quicker. The range leaves room for the small surprises every handmade toy brings.

It starts with the photos. We work out how a real face turns into a cartoon one, and you approve the design before any fabric is cut. Then the pattern, the sewing, the outfit and the hair, and the face last, because the face is what makes her recognizable.

You get photos of the finished doll before it is packed. A birthday has a fixed date, so tell us yours at the start.

Delivery

We ship worldwide. Once the doll leaves us, delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country and your customs office.

Around Christmas and other holidays the post slows down everywhere, so add time if the doll has to arrive by a certain day. For a birthday, count back from the party: order early enough that the parcel lands a few days before it, not on the morning of.
