It started with a picture he found online. Two round little birds, drawn in a few soft lines, leaning into each other with blushing cheeks. The drawing was signed Yumachi. He had an idea: what if those two birds were real, and his girlfriend could hold them?

So he asked us. We turned the drawing into a pair of love birds plush, two soft doves made to order as a gift for the girl he loves. Not a set from a shop shelf. One pair, sewn for one couple, from the art he picked.

From a sketch to two birds you can hold

In Yumachi's drawing the birds are little more than outlines. A plush needs a real shape from every side, so each dove got a round, fluffy white body, small wings, a soft tail and a pointed crest on top, a bit like a cockatiel's.

One has a sunny yellow head and closed, sleepy eyes. The other is all white, with two small black eyes looking straight at you. Both have pink cheeks and a little tan beak, just like in the picture. On each belly we embroidered a letter in yellow thread.

Why doves

The dove stands for the spirit of life. It's a sign of light, peace and love. Put two of them side by side and you get two winged, fluffy little balls that say "tenderness" and "I've got you" without a single word. Small enough to sit on a shelf by the bed. Soft enough to squeeze on a bad day.

The drawing belongs to its artist, Yumachi. We sewed the toys from it at the customer's request, as a one-off personal gift.

Materials used

The Love Doves are sewn from soft white plush with a short, fluffy pile, the kind that makes a round body look like a little cloud. The sleepy dove's head is bright yellow plush, so the pair reads as two different birds even from across the room.

The beaks are small tan pieces stitched on by hand. The cheeks are tinted a soft pink. The sleepy eyes are embroidered lines, and the white dove has two tiny black eyes. The letters on the bellies are embroidered in yellow thread, so they won't peel or wash off.

Lead time

A pair like this usually takes 2–4 weeks. Some toys are quicker. The range leaves room for the small surprises every handmade toy brings.

It starts with the drawing. We work out how a few flat lines become two round birds you can hold, and you approve the design before any fabric is cut. Then comes the pattern and the sewing. The faces are done last, because a sleepy eye or a blush in the wrong place changes the whole mood.

Delivery

We ship worldwide. Once the doves leave us, delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country and your customs office.

Around Christmas and other holidays the post slows down everywhere, so add time if the gift has to arrive by a certain day. Valentine's Day, an anniversary, her birthday: all of these have a date that won't move, so give the parcel a comfortable margin.
