Not every unicorn wants to be pink and sparkly. This voodoo unicorn plush is white, has a seam stitched down the middle of its face and wears a mane of torn black and white gauze. Half unicorn, half voodoo doll. We sewed it by hand from an original illustration the customer sent, made to order for that one person. Nothing like it sits in a warehouse. It exists because someone drew it first.
The voodoo doll look is mostly a movie invention. Pin dolls play almost no part in Haitian Vodou or Louisiana Voodoo; the picture came from 1930s travel books and horror films like White Zombie, and later from Halloween novelty shelves. What stayed is a style: visible seams, big stitched eyes, a face that's slightly off. People who love it call it creepy-cute, cute in a creepy way. This unicorn lives right there.

- A soft white body that sits with its legs stretched out in front
- A line of stitches running down the face, and blanket stitching in dark thread around every hoof
- Big round eyes outlined in black and a black horn with a grey ring at the base
- A mane of torn white and black gauze, layered strip by strip
- Black hoof pads printed with a skull, flowers and letters, each one different
A unicorn from a drawing doesn't have to be cute
Maybe you drew a gothic unicorn years ago and still think about it. Maybe a friend collects spooky plush and has everything except this. Send us the picture, even a rough sketch. We draw a pattern from it and keep the lines that make it yours: the odd stitch, the strange eyes, the symbols. The size, the colour accents and the prints on the hooves can change, and a name fits nicely on a hoof pad.

The body is sewn from premium white fabric with a hypoallergenic filling. The filling is soft, but firm enough to hold the shape, so the unicorn sits on its own with its legs out instead of slumping over.
Most of the voodoo look comes from the stitching:
- a decorative seam down the face, sewn in dark thread so it shows
- blanket stitching around the black hoof pads
- printed hoof pads: a skull, flowers and letters
- a mane of torn gauze, white fading into black
Your drawing decides the rest. Other colour accents, different symbols, a bigger or smaller unicorn, or a name on a hoof are all possible. On request we can also add a sound module, LED lights or wire in the legs so they pose.
A voodoo unicorn plush usually takes 2-4 weeks. A drawing like this has no factory pattern to start from, so we make one from your illustration first.
Then we cut and sew the body, stitch the face seam and the hoof edges by hand, add the patterned hoof pads and build the gauze mane one torn strip at a time. That mane takes patience. The time includes a small reserve for the surprises handmade work brings. Before anything ships, you see photos of your finished unicorn and approve them.
Once you approve the photos, your unicorn goes in the mail. Delivery usually takes 7-20 business days, depending on where you live, the carrier and the shipping method. Sometimes it arrives in about a week.
Couriers slow down before the holidays. A spooky unicorn makes an obvious Halloween gift, so count back: usually 2-4 weeks to sew, then up to 20 business days on the road. For Christmas, order by November 1.
