Capy fans own the keychains, the mugs and the round cartoon plushies. This one is different: a realistic capybara plush, about 30 cm tall, that looks like the animal and not the emoji. It's made to order. We start sewing after you write to us, and you decide the size, the coat and the pose.

Built like the real thing

The capybara is the largest living rodent, a grass-eater from the rivers and swamps of South America. The name comes from the Tupi language and means roughly "one who eats slender leaves". We kept the shape that makes it a capybara: a heavy barrel body on short legs, a blunt square muzzle and small round ears set high on the head.

The face is the part people notice first. Glossy black eyes sit under thick brow ridges, which gives him that calm, half-asleep look. Two small dark nostrils, dark brown feet with separate toes, and shaggy ginger-brown pile all over.

Pose him any way you like

There's a movable frame inside, so you can turn the head, shift the legs and set him down a little differently every time. He stands on all four legs on his own. Put him on a desk, a bookshelf or the end of the bed.

Why everyone wants a capybara

Capybaras became a meme in the 2020s. Clips of them chilling to "After Party" by Don Toliver ("okay, I pull up") are everywhere, and Japanese zoos like Izu Shaboten run hot spring baths for them that millions of people have watched. Fans call them unbothered and calm, the animal that gets along with everyone. Plenty of capy lovers say they're obsessed and collect every plush they can find. Most of those plushies are chibi blobs, though. If you want one that looks like the animal you saw at the zoo, that's what we make.

Your capybara, your way

We've been sewing capybaras since 2016, and no two came out quite alike. Yours can be bigger or smaller, lying down instead of standing, in a darker coat, or with a small orange on its head. You can also send photos of a real capybara you met.

Materials used

The coat is a soft, shaggy plush fabric in ginger brown, with a pile that looks like a capybara's coarse fur. The feet are a darker brown, sewn with separate toes. The eyes are glossy black, the nostrils small and dark.

Inside there's a movable frame, so the legs and head hold the pose you give them. Everything is sewn by hand. All our materials are premium and hypoallergenic, and we only ever use faux fur, never natural.

Lead time

A capybara like this usually takes 2-4 weeks to make, with a little spare time kept for handwork surprises.

Most of that time goes into the shape. The pattern has to get the heavy body and square muzzle right, and the frame has to sit so he stands on his own. The eyes and brows are set by hand, and they decide whether the face reads as a calm capybara or a confused beaver.

Before anything ships, you get photos of the finished toy. Need him by a date? Say so in your first message.

Delivery

We ship worldwide. Once your capybara leaves the studio, delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country, the carrier and customs.

Around the holidays, Christmas most of all, the mail slows down and those days stretch. For a Christmas capybara, order by November 1.
