Description

This realistic panda plush looks like the real animal, not a cartoon. He's a big sitting giant panda, about 55 cm (22 in) tall, sewn by hand to order. Nothing here waits on a shelf. We start a panda when someone asks for one, and we make it the size and shape they want.

Built like a real giant panda

He sits back on his haunches with his front paws resting between his feet and his head tipped a little forward. Real pandas sit like that for hours. Bamboo is about 99% of what they eat, and an adult gets through 9 to 14 kg of it a day, so there's a lot of sitting.

The markings follow the real animal too. Black ears, black eye patches, black legs and a black band across the shoulders; the rest is cream white. Scientists think the eye patches may help pandas recognize each other. On ours they hold brown eyes, which give him a calm, slightly shy face. There's a black nose on a short white muzzle and a small round white tail at the back, because real pandas have a short tail as well.

Turn him over and you'll find pink paw pads with separate toe pads stitched on all four feet.

Big enough to hug properly

The coat is long, dense faux fur you can run your fingers through. At this size he fills a lap or takes an armchair to himself. Panda lovers often say they want one big enough to sleep on, or something to hug on their side at night. This is the size they mean. He also makes a good gift for a partner, a friend or someone who collects bears.

Materials used

The coat is long-pile faux fur in black and cream white, cut so the black patches sit where they sit on a real giant panda: ears, eye patches, legs and the band over the shoulders.

Plush fabric goes into the smaller parts, like the pink paw pads and the separate toe pads on each foot. His eyes are brown and his nose is black.

A different size, a standing pose or a bamboo stalk in his paws are all possible; tell us at the start. Poseable legs on a wire frame are possible on request too.

Lead time

A realistic panda like this usually takes 2-4 weeks to make. It includes a small reserve for handwork surprises.

Most of it goes into the pattern and the fur. Each black patch is cut and sewn in so the pile runs the same way it grows on a real panda. Then the face: where the eye patches sit and how far the head tips. That decides whether he looks shy, sleepy or bored.

Delivery

We ship worldwide. Once your panda leaves the studio, delivery usually takes 7-20 business days, depending on your country, the carrier and customs. Around the holidays the post slows down, so allow more time.

A 55 cm panda goes in a big box, so if he's a surprise, think about who will open the door. For a birthday or an anniversary, add the making time and the shipping time and count back from the date. For Christmas, order by November 1.
