Bernard was sent to Mars to catch this monster. He made friends with it instead, and we can see why. This orange monster plush is our take on Big Orange, the Martian from the animated film Bernard: Mission Mars: about 50 cm (20 in) long, mostly grin, with purple fur that has never seen a comb. He's made to order, so we cut and sew yours after you write to us. The one in the photos already lives with the person who ordered him.

The monster from Mars

In the film, Bernard is the clumsy polar bear many people know from the short Bernard cartoons (Backkom, if you grew up with it in Korea or China). Here he sneaks onto a Mars mission with the robot G13 to hunt down a creature known only as Big Orange. The scary Martian turns out to be friendly, and the two of them end up uncovering a plot on Mars. If you liked the monster more than the secret agent, he's the one to have on your sofa.

What our Big Orange looks like

He lies on his belly with his chin on the floor, four legs tucked under, so he takes up a whole sofa cushion. Most of him is head. The grin runs nearly ear to ear: a row of white teeth, a soft yellow jaw and a blue tongue sticking out of one side.

Materials used

The purple mane is long-pile faux fur. It's shaggy on purpose and sticks out in tufts over the eyes and down the back. The tail is the same purple fur with darker stripes worked in.

The body is soft orange plush fabric with darker spots. The big jaw is a lighter yellow, and the purple spikes and claws are soft fabric too, so nothing hard pokes you when you hug him. All our materials are premium and hypoallergenic. We use faux fur only, never natural fur.

Lead time

Big Orange usually takes 2-4 weeks to make. There's a little spare time in that, because handmade work brings surprises.

The head takes the longest. The grin has to stay wide and round, the eyes have to sit at the right height under the brows, and the purple fur gets trimmed around the face so you can still see his eyes.

You get photos of the finished monster before anything ships. If you need him by a set date, put it in your first message.

Delivery

We ship worldwide. Once Big Orange leaves the studio, delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country, the carrier and customs.

Mail slows down around the holidays, and December is the slowest month. If he's a Christmas present for a kid who loved the film, order by November 1.

For a birthday, tell us the date when you first write. We'll add the making time to the shipping time and tell you right away whether it fits.

We've been making toys to order since 2009. A character with a face this big has to look right, so before anything is packed you get photos of the finished toy, and you can ask for changes.

If he arrives and you don't love him, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.
