This Scarecrow doll is the King of Oz: the straw man in a silver crown with green stones, a bright blue coat and a burlap collar tied with a white cord. The customer sent us a picture of the Scarecrow from Return to Oz, and we sewed him by hand, made to order for that one person. Nothing here sits on a shelf waiting for a buyer. Every toy starts with what you send us.
The king from the scary Oz movie
Disney released Return to Oz in June 1985. Walter Murch directed it, and the story came from two of L. Frank Baum's later books, The Marvelous Land of Oz and Ozma of Oz. Dorothy goes back to find the Emerald City in ruins and the Scarecrow, its king, held prisoner by the Nome King, who turns him into an ornament.
A lot of people who saw it as kids still call it the movie that scared them. Its fans say it's closer to Baum's books than the 1939 musical, and the crown backs them up. At the end of the first Oz book, the Wizard flies off in his balloon and leaves the Scarecrow to rule the Emerald City.
What we sewed
- A silver crown with green stones, straw poking out from under it
- A stitched fabric face with big round eyes, an orange nose and a wide smile
- A blue coat with red buttons, tied at the waist with rope
- A burlap collar with a white cord
- Straw at the neck, wrists and knees, white gloves and black boots
He stands with his gloved hands spread wide or sits on the edge of a box like he's holding court. The costume follows the film. The face came out friendlier than the movie's, which suits a king who's meant to be hugged.
Your Scarecrow, your way
Maybe you want the 1939 Scarecrow in his pointed hat, the king from the film, or Dorothy's whole gang. Send us screenshots, a poster or a drawing, and we'll sew your character as close to the picture as fabric allows. Costume colors, the crown, the extras and the size can all change.
His old friend the Tin Man is here too, as our Iron Woodcutter doll. For more, see our custom character dolls and book character plush.
We're an independent studio. This is a handmade fan piece, not an official Disney product.
The Scarecrow King is made from safe materials, picked so he looks like a man stuffed with straw but stays soft enough to hold.
- Soft tan fabric for the head and body, with stitched seams on the face like a patched sack
- A blue coat with red buttons and a rope belt
- A burlap collar with frayed edges and a white cord
- Bunches of straw at the neck, wrists and knees
- A silver crown with green stones, white gloves and black boots
Want a different coat color, a taller crown or less straw? Tell us. We can also add extras on request, such as a sound module, lights, or arms and legs that hold a pose.
A doll like the Scarecrow King usually takes 2β4 weeks to make.
The pattern comes first, for the body and that round, sack-like head. Then the costume, nearly a second project: the coat with its buttons, the frayed collar, the crown made to fit his head.
The straw goes in near the end, along with the face. The eyes and smile decide whether he looks like a king or just a scarecrow. The time includes a small reserve for handmade surprises. Got a date? Put it in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7β20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier.
Couriers slow down around the holidays, so give yourself room. For Christmas, order by November 1.
He makes a good gift for someone who grew up on the Oz books or for a fan who still talks about Return to Oz. Add the making time and delivery together and count back from the date.
Before he ships, you get photos of the finished doll, and we pack him so the crown and straw arrive in place.
We've been sewing custom toys since 2009. Most of them are characters nobody sells, like a scarecrow who became a king.
Fans of the film know every detail, from the green stones in the crown to the cord on his collar. That's why you see photos of the finished doll before it ships. If you don't love it, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.
Not sure which version to pick, or what size? Ask before we start. A detail is much easier to get right in the pattern than to fix later.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
