This plush bunny in a dress is Aunt Zinnia, and she was sewn to order for one small reader. A mom wanted to surprise her child, a big fan of a thick book of rabbit stories, with the favorite character from it. We worked from the book's pictures. She wasn't on any shelf before this order, and every toy we make starts the same way: with one person's picture and one person's idea.
Who Aunt Zinnia is
She comes from Beechwood Bunny Tales, a French picture-book series by Geneviève Huriet, drawn by Loïc Jouannigot. In France it's La Famille Passiflore, published since 1987. English readers got seven of the books in 1991 and 1992, including Aunt Zinnia and the Ogre. Many people met the family later through the cartoon The Bellflower Bunnies, first shown in 2001.
Aunt Zinnia helps Papa Bramble raise five bunnies who can't sit still for a minute, so every page is a new mess to sort out. Grown-ups who loved these books as kids often only remember fragments: a rabbit family, a moving day, pictures so full of detail you could look at them for an hour.
What we sewed
- Tan and brown plush with long upright ears, a white muzzle, a brown nose and whiskers
- A navy polka-dot dress with white lace at the collar, cuffs and hem, tied with a ribbon at the neck
- A dark faux leather aviator cap with goggles. It comes off, so she can wear it or leave it
- A round white tail, and she sits up on her own
A character no shop carries
Most book characters never get a plush, especially from older or translated books. That's where we come in. Send us the pages, a cover or a still from the cartoon and tell us the size: small around 20 cm, up to huge at 60 cm and more. We'll pattern the toy from your pictures and show you photos before it ships. More characters from children's books are in our book character plushies, like Moomin Mama and the White Rabbit.
We're an independent studio. This is a handmade fan piece, not an official product of the book's publisher.
Aunt Zinnia is sewn from premium fabrics picked to match the warm, painterly colors of the illustrations:
- Soft tan and brown plush for the head, ears and paws, with white plush for the muzzle and tail
- Navy fabric with white polka dots for the dress, trimmed with white lace
- Dark faux leather for the aviator cap, with white trim around the goggles
- A brown nose and fine whiskers on the muzzle
The filling is hypoallergenic, and the clothes are cut to fit her. Want her in another outfit from the book, or an embroidered name? Tell us at the start, since extras get sewn in as we go.
A storybook bunny like Aunt Zinnia usually takes 2β4 weeks to make.
A book shows a character from one or two angles, so the pattern comes first: ear length, muzzle width, where the eyes sit. Then the body, the dress with its lace, and the cap and goggles as separate pieces.
The face goes in last. That's where she becomes the aunt from the book instead of just any rabbit. The time frame includes a small reserve for handmade surprises, so if you have a date, say so in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7β20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Around the holidays couriers get slower, so allow extra time.
Planning her for a birthday, or to sit next to the book on a child's shelf? Add the making time and the delivery time and count back from the day. For Christmas, order by November 1.
Before she leaves, we send you photos of the finished toy. She's packed so the long ears, the lace and the goggles arrive in shape.
We've been sewing custom plush since 2009, and plenty of our orders start with a picture book. Turning a flat drawing into a toy that still feels like the same character is the part we know best.
You see photos of your bunny before she ships. If you still don't love her, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.
Only have a worn old copy, or a few blurry screenshots of the cartoon? Send them anyway. We'll tell you what we can work from and what else would help.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
