This Moomin mama plush started with a mug. A favorite one, with Moominmamma printed on the side, the kind you reach for every evening with tea. Then came the question: what if she stepped off the mug? We took that picture and sewed Moominmamma to order from it. Nothing here waits on a shelf. Every toy we make starts with one person's picture and one person's idea.
Who Moominmamma is
She's the mother of Moomintroll in the Moomin books by Finnish author Tove Jansson. The first one, The Moomins and the Great Flood, came out in 1945. Moominmamma is the calm one in Moominvalley. Guests turn up at Moominhouse, whoever they are, and she finds room for them.
She's almost never without her handbag. In the books it holds the things somebody might need: dry woolly socks, tummy powder, bits of bark. Fans tell each other she's their favorite character, and some keep a Moominmamma plush to hug at night or give one to their own mom.
What we sewed
- A white plush body with the round Moomin snout, pointed ears and a long tail with a cream faux fur tip
- Green eyes outlined in black, with dark brows
- Her red-striped apron, tied with a red bow at the back
- A black faux leather handbag with a yellow clasp and yellow rings, hanging from her paw
She sits up on her own, soft enough to hug and steady enough for a shelf.
Your picture works too
A mug, a T-shirt, a page from a picture book, a drawing your kid made: any of them can be the start. Send photos of it and tell us the size you want. We can change colors, add an embroidered name, a sound module or a small accessory from the story. Before your toy ships, you see photos of it. Other characters from books are in book character plushies, next to the Gruffalo and Winnie the Pooh.

Moominmamma is sewn from premium fabrics, chosen to match the soft, simple look of Tove Jansson's drawings:
- Soft white plush for the body, the snout and the ears, smooth to the touch and easy to hug
- Red and white striped fabric for the apron, with a red bow at the back
- Black faux leather for the handbag, with yellow details for the clasp and rings
- Cream faux fur for the tip of the tail
The filling is hypoallergenic. We only ever use faux fur, never real. If your picture shows her in a different apron, or you'd like the handbag in another color, tell us at the start. Extras like an embroidered name or a sound module go in while we sew, so it helps to mention them early.
A Moomin mama plush usually takes 2–4 weeks to make.
We start with the pattern. A Moomin is mostly curves, and the snout has to come out round and full, not flat. Then we cut and sew the body, the apron and the tail, and make the handbag as a separate small piece.
The face comes last: the eyes and brows decide whether she looks like Moominmamma or just a white troll. The time frame includes a small reserve for handmade surprises. If you need her by a date, say so in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Around the holidays, couriers slow down and it can take longer.

Before she leaves, we send you photos of the finished toy. She's packed so the ears, the apron and the handbag arrive in shape.
