Who is the Count?
The Count first appeared on Sesame Street on November 13, 1972, in the Season 4 premiere. In his first scene he counts Ernie's pyramid of blocks, taking it apart as he goes.
Norman Stiles created him. Jerry Nelson performed him for forty years, until 2012, and Matt Vogel has done it since. His job on the show is teaching kids to count, and he counts everything. "Greetings! I am the Count. They call me the Count because I love to count... things." When he hits the last number, thunder rolls and he laughs his "Ah! Ah! Ah!"
In the early years he was spookier, with a Lugosi-style cape pose and hypnotic powers. By 1975 he had softened into the friendly Count most of us remember.
The favorite vampire who does count
There's an old joke. Who's your favorite vampire? The one from Sesame Street. He doesn't count. Oh, he does. Plenty of people grew up counting along with him, and some only fell for him as adults. Official Count plushies are easy to find, like GUND's soft 14-inch one. What our Count von Count doll looks like
The one in these photos is needle-felted from natural wool. He has a lavender face with a long nose, pointed ears, black widow's-peak hair and heavy eyebrows, and an open grin with a red tongue and two white fangs. A monocle sits on one eye. He wears a black suit with small buttons, a white collar with a red and yellow sash across the chest, white cuffs, white socks and shiny black shoes. The green cape stands up behind his head the way it does on the show.

A felted figure is a collector's piece. It looks its best on a shelf or desk, where you can see the texture of the wool up close.
A Count von Count plush usually takes 2–4 weeks.
We start with your wishes and pictures. Then the wool gets felted layer by layer into the head, body and hands, and the suit, sash and cape are made to fit him.
The face takes the longest. The eyebrows, the nose and the fanged grin decide whether he reads as the Count or as some purple vampire, so we don't rush them.
You get photos of the finished doll to approve before he ships. Need him by a certain date? Say so when you ask for a quote.
After you approve the photos, the Count gets packed. Delivery takes up to 20 business days, and sometimes he arrives in just 7. It depends on where you live, the carrier and shipping method, and how close it is to the holidays.
In peak holiday season couriers are overloaded, and parcels slow down.
