This Rei Ayanami plush is a chibi Rei from Neon Genesis Evangelion, in the black plugsuit she wears in the Rebuild films. We sewed her to order for one fan, the way we make every toy. Nothing here comes off a shelf. You send pictures and tell us which Rei you want, and we sew her from scratch.

Search "Rei plush" and you hit the meme first: the small plush in the white plugsuit with that blank stare. It has its own subreddit. Fans love it. They also keep asking where to find a Rei that looks like the one they picture, not a knockoff with the wrong eyes. So we sew that Rei.

Who Rei is

Rei is the First Child, the quiet girl who pilots Evangelion Unit-00. Director Hideaki Anno and character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto created her for the 1995 anime and manga. She's 14, has blue hair and red eyes, and hardly ever says what she feels. Anno called her a taciturn girl who rarely complains. She ended up one of the most influential anime characters ever made.

In Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo a Rei in a black plugsuit shows up, a version with none of the old Rei's memories, who answers most questions with "I don't know." She's back in 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time. That's the Rei on this page.

What we sewed

  • Light-blue plush hair with the black headset pieces on top
  • Big embroidered red eyes and a tiny stitched mouth
  • A black plugsuit with grey sleeves, a red collar and teal diamond patches
  • A red shield with a zero on her back

Your Rei, your way

Want the white plugsuit from the 1995 series, her school uniform, or Rei next to Asuka and Shinji? Send screenshots or fan art and tell us how big. She can be a small chibi for a desk or a big one to sleep with. We can also add an embroidered name or a sound module. Before she ships, you get photos of the finished toy. More characters from anime are in our custom anime plush collection, and human-like characters are in character dolls.

We're an independent studio. This is a handmade fan piece, not official Evangelion merchandise.

Rei is sewn from premium fabrics, chosen part by part to match the anime:

  • Soft light-blue plush for her hair, cut in layers so the bangs fall over the face
  • Black plush for the plugsuit and the headset pieces, grey for the sleeves
  • Red and teal details sewn on, not printed, so they don't wear off when she's hugged
  • Embroidered eyes and mouth, with no hard parts on the face

The filling is hypoallergenic and keeps her soft enough to cuddle. If a version of Rei needs fur anywhere, it's faux fur only. Want a different plugsuit, a lighter blue, or extras like an embroidered name or a sound module? Say so before we start, since those go in while we sew.

A custom Rei Ayanami plush usually takes 2–4 weeks to make.

First we draw a pattern from your pictures and settle the proportions: how big the head is, how long the body is. With a chibi, a few millimeters change the whole look. Then come the plugsuit pieces and the patches, each one cut and sewn by hand.

The face comes last. Rei's eyes are what fans check first, so we take our time with them. The time frame includes a small reserve for handmade surprises. If you need her by a set date, tell us in your first message.

We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Around the holidays couriers slow down, so it can take longer.

Planning her as a birthday gift, or for a friend who rewatches Evangelion every year? Add the making time and delivery together and count back from the date. For Christmas, order by November 1.

Before she leaves, we send you photos of the finished toy. She travels packed so her hair and headset pieces arrive in shape.

We've been sewing custom plush since 2009. A lot of what we make is fan characters, and anime fans check the details first: the eye color, the right plugsuit.

So you see photos of your Rei before she ships. If you still don't love her, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Not sure which Rei to pick, the 1995 one or the Rebuild one, or how big she should be? Ask before we start. It's much easier to get a detail right in the pattern than to fix it later.

Why?

No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.

Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.

Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.

You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.

One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.

That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
