Most people picture Baloo as a big grey bear singing about the bare necessities. This Baloo plush is the other one. We sewed him in 2015, by hand and to order, in the look of the Soviet cartoon Mowgli. Nothing here sits on a shelf waiting for a buyer. Each bear starts with a message from someone who remembers him.
Which Baloo is this
Soyuzmultfilm made Mowgli as five short films between 1967 and 1971, directed by Roman Davydov, and joined them into one feature in 1973. English-speaking viewers know it as Adventures of Mowgli. It sticks much closer to Kipling's The Jungle Book than Disney did. Fans still call it the most faithful animated version.
Its Baloo is an Asiatic black bear, the kind with a pale crescent on the chest. He's black, with a grey muzzle and a heavy ruff of fur around the head. Like in the book, he's Mowgli's friend and his teacher of the Law of the Jungle. Less a party pal, more a strict old teacher.

He holds a pose
There's a wire frame in his limbs, so you can change how he sits and bend his paws in different ways. He can sit back on his haunches or get up on his hind legs, one paw raised, like he's about to start a lesson.

Baloo is sewn from premium plush: deep black for the body, a soft grey for the face, and a white patch for the chest mark.

The filling is hypoallergenic. Any fur we use is faux fur only. If you'd like a different size or a version closer to another Baloo, say so in your first message, because it changes the pattern.
A Baloo plush usually takes 2–4 weeks to make.
Most of it goes into the shape. The ruff around his head has to frame the face without swallowing it, and the long arms need to balance the heavy body so he sits steady. Then the wire goes into the limbs.
The face comes last. The grey brows and the eyes decide whether he looks wise or just surprised, so we place them by hand. The time frame keeps a small reserve for handmade surprises. Need him by a date? Tell us at the start.
We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Around the holidays parcels move slower, so leave some extra time.
Baloo makes a good gift for someone who grew up on the Soviet Mowgli and never found the bear in a toy shop, or for a Kipling fan. Add the making time to the delivery time and count back from your date. For Christmas, order by November 1.
