A memorial pet plush is a handmade copy of a pet who has died, sewn or needle-felted from the photos you have. At SKAZKODROM, memorial pets start from $450 and usually take 2β4 weeks to make. You see photos of the finished toy before it ships, and on personal orders there’s a full refund within 14 days.
We don’t keep ready-made dogs or cats on a shelf. Each memorial plush is made to order for one family, from that family’s pictures, and we start only when you ask us to. There’s no deadline on your side. We’ve made toys by hand since 2009, more than 2,100 of them, and some of the ones that matter most to people are pets they’ve lost. You can see them on our Memorial Pets page.
What is a memorial pet plush, and what can it look like?
A memorial pet plush is a soft or felted likeness of one particular animal: its coat, markings, eye color and the pose you remember. It isn’t a breed toy with a name tag. We make it in one of three ways.
- A faux fur plush to hold. Soft, huggable, sewn to match the coat. Our Pekingese was made at the owner’s request in memory of a dog who had died: long cream fur, a hand-felted muzzle, and a cushion to sit on, the way the dog used to.
- A needle-felted figure. Wool worked with a barbed needle until it holds a shape. Firm to the touch, with fine detail. The Memorial Dog is felted this way, worn collar included.
- A 3D portrait for the wall. The pet’s head and front paws, felted from wool and set in a wooden frame. See our plush pet wall portraits.
It doesn’t have to be a dog or a cat. A rabbit, a parrot or a hamster can be made the same way. See our realistic stuffed animals.
Which photos help most for a memorial pet plush?
Send everything you have. Most people only have phone pictures: a dog asleep on the sofa, a cat half out of the frame. That’s fine. Several ordinary photos together tell us more than one perfect shot.
If you can find them, these help the most:
- The face, as close and as sharp as you have it
- The pet from the side and from behind, so we see the back and the tail
- The markings: a white patch on the chest, a dark tip on one ear
- The pose you remember best, like curled up asleep or sitting by the door
- The collar or tag they wore, if you’d like it copied on the toy
Then tell us in words what no photo shows. “Her eyes were amber, not brown.” “His left ear never stood up.” A memorial plush is built from your photos and your memory together.
Can you make a memorial plush from old or blurry photos?
Usually, yes. An old print, a dark photo from years ago or a blurry phone picture still shows the shape of the pet, the main colors and where the markings sit. If you only have prints, photograph them flat in daylight, without the flash, and send those.
Here’s what a blurry or old photo can’t tell us: the exact eye color, the color of a coat in bad light, the pattern on the side we never see. We don’t guess those. We ask you, and we work from your answer. When something can’t be known, we tell you before we start, not after.
One photo can be enough. The 3D pet portrait below was felted from a single photo of a grey tabby, and our realistic dog plush was also sewn from one photo of the owner’s dog. More photos still make a closer likeness.
Realistic felted or soft faux fur: which style suits a memorial pet?
Both are realistic. We match the markings, eye color and expression from your photos either way. The difference is how the toy feels and where it will live.
- Needle-felted wool: firm, slightly fuzzy, holds fine detail like a folded ear or grey around the muzzle. Best for a shelf or a desk. It suits short-haired dogs and cats well.
- Faux fur plush: soft all over, made to be held and hugged. Best for a long, silky coat like the Pekingese, or for a toy you want to sleep with.
- 3D wall portrait: felted head and paws in a frame. For people who’d rather look at their pet than hold it.
We use faux fur and wool only, never real fur. Not sure which fits your pet? Send the photos and we’ll suggest one. The tabby cat plush with folded ears and its pink tongue out shows how far faux fur can go on a face.
How big can a memorial pet plush be? Can it be life-size?
Any size. A memorial pet plush can be a small copy of about 15β20 cm (6β8 in) that sits on a shelf, or as big as the pet was. Life-size is possible too.
The Memorial Dog is small enough to sit on an open palm. A life-size dog takes much more fur and many more hours, so the price grows with the size. Tell us the size you have in mind, and the quote will match it.
How much does a memorial pet plush cost, and how long does it take?
Memorial pet plush start from $450. Size, the type of coat and the amount of detail move the price, and extras like a copied collar add to it. The quote is free, with the exact number and a time estimate. Custom toys in general start from $350.
- Making: usually 2β4 weeks; a 3D wall portrait about 3β4 weeks

- Agree the details: plush, felted figure or wall portrait, the size, the pose, which markings matter most.
- We make it by hand. Usually 2β4 weeks.
- See photos of the finished toy before it ships. If something looks wrong, we change it first.
What if the memorial plush doesn’t feel like my pet?
You knew your pet better than anyone, so you judge the result first. That’s why you see photos of the finished toy before it’s packed, and most fixes happen then.
A memorial plush is a handmade likeness, as close as fabric and wool allow, not an exact copy. If it arrives and it isn’t your pet to you, tell us within 14 days, for any reason. You get a full refund and keep the toy. The details are on our guarantee page, and our article on whether a custom plush will look like the picture explains how we handle likeness.
The customer below ordered a lizard, not a pet, but he had the same worry: could a toy really match his picture?
“Great likeness with a picture I sent as an original. β¦ Frankly speaking, I had some doubts in the possibility to achieve such a similarity with the original picture. So I am doubly happy.”

Is it normal to want a plush of a pet who died?
Yes. Cornell’s veterinary college puts it plainly: grief is a natural reaction to the loss of a pet, regardless of their age, size or species, and there is no right or wrong way to honor a pet’s life. Some people want something to hold. Some want a portrait on the wall. Some want nothing for a while, and that’s fine too.
If you need someone to talk to, the same page lists Cornell’s pet loss support hotline, staffed by trained veterinary student volunteers. A memorial plush isn’t a replacement for that. It’s one way to keep your pet’s face nearby, made when you’re ready.
What if my pet is still alive, or it’s a lost toy I miss?
A plush of a pet who is still with you is the same work without the goodbye. Read our guide to a custom pet plush from photos, or browse our pet stuffed animals, dog replicas and custom cat plush.
If what you miss is a childhood toy, not a pet, we copy those too from old photos. See our article on finding or replacing a lost stuffed animal.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
