In 2015 we sewed a whole cast of TV puppets for people we like working with: a talented team of TV makers and a good friend of ours. They were starting a new TV project, a series about a family of cats, and every character on screen had to be made by hand, to order, from scratch.
We expected a full series, of course. So far it has stopped at the pilot. We'll see what the team comes up with next. In the meantime, here's the cast.
Meet the family
- Dad is a grey tabby with heavy yellow eyes and a tired look, in a checked short-sleeved shirt.
- Mum is a fluffy white cat with amber eyes, a floral dress and a pink striped apron tied at the waist.
- The sister is white too, with big blue eyes, long lashes, a pink cardigan and a denim skirt.
- The son is the family punk: a black mask, a messy ginger fringe, a ring in one ear, a studded faux leather vest, a skull bandana and a skull buckle.
- The friend is a dog in a red cap and a white T-shirt that says "Cat Rules". Clearly he knows whose house he's in.
The archive also has one more character: a ginger cat with a big golden mane, in a navy suit and tie.
Built for the camera
These are hand puppets with big open mouths and real clothes sewn to fit. A camera shows every crooked seam, so we spent most of the time on the faces. The audience gets a few seconds to work out who's who, and each character has to be clear in one look.
Puppets for your show
Working on a pilot, a web series, a kids' channel or a stage show? Send us your character sketches, or just describe the cast, and we'll sew the puppets to order. One hero puppet is a normal order. So is a whole family. If you'll need copies, we sew one sample first and you approve it before we make the rest.

Every member of this family has their own fabrics, picked so the character reads on screen.
- Faux fur heads in grey tabby, white, ginger and black-and-orange, with long faux fur for the son's fringe and the ginger cat's mane
- Glossy eyes with painted lids and lashes, which set each face: Dad looks tired, the son looks cheeky
- Open mouths lined in fabric, with a pink tongue
- Real sewn clothes: a checked shirt, a floral dress with an apron, a pink cardigan and denim skirt, a navy suit with a tie, a printed T-shirt and a red cap
- Faux leather vest with metal studs, a studded wristband, a skull bandana and a skull buckle for the son
For your cast we match the colors and clothes to your sketches. Sound modules and LED lights can be added on request.
A single puppet or mascot usually takes 2–4 weeks. Most of that goes into the face, because the face carries the scene.
A cast of several characters, or a batch of copies, takes longer. The first sample usually takes 4–6 weeks. You approve it, and only then do we sew the rest.
Our estimate has a reserve for handmade surprises. If you have a shooting date, tell us when you ask for a quote. We take urgent orders.
We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Couriers slow down before big holidays, so leave some room.
Puppets for a production almost always have a date: the first rehearsal, a shooting day, a premiere. Count back from that day, making time first, then shipping. For anything tied to Christmas or New Year, order by November 1.
Before anything ships, you get photos of the finished puppets, so you can check every character before they travel.
We've made toys to order since 2009, from photos, drawings and ideas. Puppets and mascots for TV people, companies, clubs and events are a regular part of that work.
Before we start, we go through each character with you: size, colors, clothes, expression, and what has to stay exactly as drawn. There's no minimum order. For copies, we sew one sample first and you approve it. When the puppets are ready, you see photos of them before they ship.
