This Fantastic Mr. Fox plush is Ash, Mr. Fox's son, the small one with the big attitude. He's about 30 cm (12 in) tall. We sewed him to order for one customer, who asked for a softer, more cartoon-like Ash than the film puppet. That's how every toy here starts: you tell us what you want, we make it. Nothing sits on a shelf waiting.

The kid who feels different

Fantastic Mr. Fox came out in 2009. Wes Anderson shot it in stop-motion, with real puppets, from Roald Dahl's 1970 book. Ash isn't in the book. Anderson added him for the film, and Jason Schwartzman gave him his voice.

Ash is short, moody and stuck in the shadow of his cousin Kristofferson, who turns out to be better at whack-bat and better at impressing Ash's dad. When the others get proper bandit hats for the raid, Ash doesn't. So he modifies a tube sock. His mom tells him, "We're all different," and that line is why so many people say Ash is the character they relate to most.

What we sewed

  • The tube-sock bandit hat, white with orange heel and toe. It's removable, so he can wear it for the raid or go without.
  • An orange faux fur head with a cream muzzle, green eyes, a black nose and whiskers
  • A white jacket with yellow heart buttons, white pants and a white cape
  • Striped socks, a yellow-orange neck ring and an orange tail with a cream tip

All of his clothes are sewn by hand. He's soft and fluffy, made for squeezing rather than standing behind glass.

Your Ash, or the whole family

Want him closer to the puppet, bigger, or with Kristofferson next to him? Send screenshots and tell us. We can change the size and the outfit, add wire to the arms and legs so he holds a pose, or embroider a name. You get photos of the finished toy before it ships. For another fox, see our Little Prince fox, and for another stop-motion favorite, the Mary Daisy Dinkle doll. More film characters are in toys from animated films.

We're an independent studio. This is a handmade fan piece, not an official 20th Century Studios product.

Ash is two textures in one toy, and we picked fabrics for each:

  • Orange and cream faux fur for the head, paws and tail, soft enough to stroke
  • Soft white fabric for the jacket, pants, socks and cape, cut and sewn as real little garments
  • White fabric with orange patches for the sock hat, which slips on and off
  • Yellow heart buttons and a yellow-orange neck ring for the bits of color

All materials are premium and the filling is hypoallergenic. Want the knitted sweater look from the film, or wire in the limbs for posing? Mention it at the start. Those changes go into the pattern, not on top of it.

An Ash plush usually takes 2–4 weeks to make.

The pattern comes first, drawn for your size and style. Then the body, and then the wardrobe: jacket, pants, socks, cape and the sock hat, each cut and sewn separately so they can be taken off.

The face is the slow part. Eye placement and the shape of the muzzle decide whether he looks like Ash or just a fox in pajamas. The time frame includes a small reserve for handmade surprises, so tell us your date in the first message.

We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Around the holidays couriers slow down, so it can take longer.

Ash makes a good gift for a Wes Anderson fan, for someone who quotes the film by heart, or for anyone who has ever said "I'm Ash." Add making time and delivery, then count back from the date. For Christmas, order by November 1.

Before he ships, you get photos of the finished toy. The sock hat travels on his head, so it arrives with him.

We've been sewing custom plush since 2009. Most of our orders are characters like Ash: a favorite from a film, sewn from screenshots for one person.

You see photos of your Ash before he leaves us, so you can check the face, the hat and the outfit. If you still don't love him, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Not sure whether you want him cartoon-style like this one or closer to the film? Ask before we start. It's much easier to decide in the pattern than to change later.

Why?

No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.

Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.

Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.

You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.

One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.

That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
