Most kids get a doll. These two got a doll of themselves. Their parents ordered this pair of portrait dolls as a gift for their son and daughter, and we posted it in January 2019. This is what people mean when they look for dolls that look like your child: no stock face, no catalog outfit. Both dolls were made to order for one family, and there won't be another pair like them.
Two kids, two dolls
The sister is the taller one. She has long, straight auburn hair, a painted face with grey-violet eyes and pink cheeks, and an outfit with a lot going on: a lilac top with blue ruffles on the shoulders, a heart button and a tiny kokeshi print, a peach tulle skirt, white tights, pink strap shoes and a little glitter bag on a chain.
Her brother is smaller. Short, messy ginger hair, blue-grey eyes, a yellow zip-up hoodie covered in doodled stars, a white T-shirt that says "Want Have FUN!" and dark grey pants. In the photo of the two of them, her hand rests on his shoulder.
Both are soft textile dolls. The faces are painted by hand on fabric, and every piece of clothing was sewn for them in our studio.
A pair for your family
Picture your kid spotting their own haircut and favorite jacket on a doll. To make that happen, we need clear photos of each child and a few words about what they like to wear. You could ask for:
- sibling dolls for two, three or more kids
- their everyday clothes, a school uniform or a party outfit
- a name embroidered on a sleeve or a shirt
- small extras, like a backpack or a favorite toy
Portrait dolls are usually 30–50 cm (12–20 in) tall. The price is per doll: from $385 each. We agree on the details with you before we start, and you get photos of the finished dolls before they ship.

These are soft cloth dolls. Heads, bodies and hands are fabric, and the faces are painted by hand on the cloth: eyes with lashes, brows, a touch of blush and lips. On the brother's hands you can see the fingers marked with fine stitching.
- Sister: long straight auburn hair, lilac ruffled top, peach tulle skirt, white tights, pink strap shoes, a small glitter bag
- Brother: short ginger hair, yellow star hoodie with a zipper, printed T-shirt, dark grey knit pants
The filling is hypoallergenic. Want a sound module with a recorded voice, or wire in the limbs for posing? Say so in your first message, because those go in while we sew.
A pair like this usually takes 2–4 weeks. With portrait dolls, the faces take the longest.
We start with your photos and work out how each child's face turns into paint on cloth. Then come the patterns, the sewing, the hair and two separate outfits. The faces get their final touches last, because that's where a doll either looks like your kid or doesn't.
The time frame includes a reserve for handmade surprises. Need the dolls for a birthday? Tell us the date at the start.
We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Mail slows down around the holidays, so allow extra time then.
Dolls of the kids make a good Christmas or birthday surprise. Count back from the date: making time plus shipping. For Christmas, order by November 1.
Before we pack anything, you get photos of the finished dolls. We pack them so the hair and the clothes arrive the way you saw them.
We've been sewing custom toys since 2009, and portrait dolls are some of the most personal things we make. A doll that's meant to look like your daughter has to look like her, not like "a girl".
So we agree on the details before we start, and you see photos of the finished dolls before they ship. If you still don't love them, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.
Not sure your photos are good enough? Send what you have. We'll tell you if we need a side view or a better look at the hair.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
