"Leopold, come out! Come out, you sneaky coward!" If you grew up with Soviet cartoons, you can hear the two mice yelling it. This is our Leopold the Cat plush, sewn in 2014, and he is not a small one. Like everything we make, he was made to order. We don't keep a shelf of Leopolds. Each one is sewn for the person who asks.

The cat who never hit back

The Adventures of Leopold the Cat ran from 1975 to 1987 at the Ekran studio: eleven short films directed by Anatoly Reznikov, written by Arkady Khait. Two mice, Grey and White, spend every episode trying to ruin Leopold's day. He doesn't get even. He sighs, adjusts his bow tie and says the line a whole country still quotes: "Guys, let's all get along."

We always liked that about him. A cartoon cat who wins by staying kind, in the spirit of Tolstoy and Gandhi. Tom and Jerry, with the cat as the good guy.

What we kept from the screen

Leopold is easy to recognize and easy to get wrong. So the details carry him:

  • a ginger faux fur head with a white muzzle and a black nose
  • big cartoon eyes ringed in orange, set a little apart
  • the bow tie, huge and shiny purple, because Leopold never takes it off, not even to swim
  • a yellow top, navy trousers and wide orange paws with the fingers spread, mid-gesture
  • a long fluffy tail with a red-orange tip

He stands on his own big feet with his arms open, as if he's about to ask the mice to calm down.

Your Leopold, any size

This one was built big. Yours can be big too, or small enough for a shelf. Pick a size on the order form or just tell us how tall you want him, and send a still from your favorite episode if you have one. We work out the pattern from the cartoon and agree on fabrics with you before we start.

You see photos of the finished cat before he ships. SKAZKODROM is an independent studio, not connected to the makers of the cartoon. We sew one-off fan toys.

More from the same shelf of childhood: the lion cub from the turtle song, other toys from animated films, and why people order nostalgia plush as grown-ups.

Leopold is mostly clothes, so he needs two kinds of fabric: fur for the cat, plain cloth for the outfit.

  • Ginger long-pile faux fur for the head, cheeks and tail, with a red-orange tail tip
  • White plush for the muzzle, a black nose and big cartoon eyes ringed in orange
  • Orange plush for the paws and the big feet
  • Shiny purple fabric for the bow tie
  • Yellow fabric for the top and navy fabric for the trousers

The filling is soft and hypoallergenic. We only use faux fur, never real fur. Colors and size can follow your favorite episode. On request we can add a sound module, wire in the arms so he holds a gesture, or an embroidered name.

A Leopold like this usually takes 2–4 weeks to make.

First comes the pattern, worked out from cartoon stills. Then the body and the outfit: top, trousers and that bow, which has to sit big without flopping. The face goes on last. The eyes decide whether he looks like Leopold or like some other ginger cat, so we place them by hand.

The time frame keeps a small reserve for handmade surprises. If you need him by a date, say so in your first message.

We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Around the holidays parcels move slower, so leave extra time.

Leopold is a good surprise for someone who watched him on TV as a kid and still says "let's all get along" at family dinners. Add the making time to the delivery time and count back from your date. For Christmas, order by November 1.

Before he ships you get photos of the finished toy. We pack him so the bow and the fur arrive in shape.

We've been sewing custom plush since 2009, and old Soviet cartoon characters come up often. People can't find them in shops, or find a version that looks nothing like the one they remember.

You agree on the details with us before we sew, and you see photos of the finished Leopold before he ships. If you still don't love him, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Only have a blurry screenshot from an old tape? Send it. We'll ask about the rest.

Why?

No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.

Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.

Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.

You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.

One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.

That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
