Petrie is the friend who was scared of heights and flew anyway. This Petrie plush has his long orange beak wide open, a pink tongue sticking out, and both wings up, ready to take off. We sewed him by hand, made to order for one person. We don't keep ready toys on a shelf. Every Petrie we make starts with your message.
Who Petrie is
Petrie is the Pteranodon, or "Flyer", in The Land Before Time, the 1988 animated film about five young dinosaurs looking for the Great Valley. Will Ryan voiced him in the first film and Jeff Bennett in the sequels. He talks in his own broken English, says "me" instead of "I", and spends most of the first film afraid of flying. Then his friends need him, and he flies.
How we built him
His body, belly and long neck are soft beige plush, and the top of his head, his small crest and his arms are brick red. The beak is orange-yellow and opens wide, with a red mouth inside. Big white eyes with black pupils sit high on his head, so he looks a little surprised all the time. An orange ring goes around his neck.
The wings are beige fabric edged in red, and they open out to the sides. Black fingers stick up at the top of each wing, and he stands on two black three-toed feet.
Your Petrie
- Any size you have in mind
- Colours closer to the film, or your own shades
- A wire frame in the wings and neck, so you can pose him
- A sound module, if you want him to squeak
Send us a screenshot from the film, or a photo of an old Petrie toy you miss, and tell us what matters most to you. You see photos of the finished toy before it ships. A Petrie plush like this starts from $340, and the quote is free.
More dinosaurs live here too: a triceratops plush sewn from a drawing, a big T-rex plush, and more film friends in our animated movie plush collection. We're an independent studio, not official Universal.
Petrie is sewn from soft short-pile plush: beige for the body, belly and neck, brick red for the head, crest and arms. The beak is orange-yellow plush with a red mouth lining and a pink tongue.
- Beige wing fabric with a thin red edge
- Black fingers and three-toed feet
- White eyes with black pupils and an orange neck ring
He's soft all over and made for hugging. For your Petrie we match the fabrics to your pictures. A wire frame for posing or a sound module can go in on request.
A Petrie plush usually takes 2-4 weeks, with a small reserve for the surprises that handwork brings.
The head needs the most care. The beak has to open wide and keep its shape, and the eyes have to sit at the right height. Get that wrong and he stops looking like Petrie and starts looking like a duck.
You get photos of the finished toy before it ships. If you need him by a set date, tell us in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Once Petrie leaves the studio, delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country.
Holidays slow the post down, and December is the slowest month. For Christmas, order by November 1. More holiday ideas are on our custom Christmas plush page.
He's a good gift for someone who grew up on The Land Before Time, or for a kid who loves dinosaurs. Tell us the date, and we'll say straight away whether sewing and shipping fit.
We've sewn toys to order since 2009. Before Petrie ships, we go over every seam and make sure his beak holds its shape.
You see photos of your Petrie before he's packed and can ask for changes then. That's the moment to say if his red should be darker or his grin wider.
If he arrives and you don't love him, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
