A client sent us a small picture: a white bear in green shorts, sitting on a crescent moon and holding a star on a string. They wanted it as a soft gift. In 2016 we turned that drawing into this custom teddy bear, one copy, made to order for that one person. Nothing here came off a shelf. We sew every toy from what the customer sends us.
From a flat picture to a bear you can hold
Put the drawing next to the toy and you can follow every line. The bear has the same round head and little ears, the same tuft of black hair sticking up, the same pale circle on the tummy with a dot for a belly button. His green shorts are a little baggy, like in the picture.
The harder part was the stuff around him. A drawn moon only has to look right from the front. A plush moon has to stand up on its own and hold a bear. So the crescent became a firm, stuffed shape in pale yellow, curved enough for the bear to sit in. The star is soft and blue with a round patch in the middle, and it rides on a thin stem so the bear can hold it up in the air, like in the sketch.
Sweet dreams, on purpose
The client meant him for the bedroom. In the words of our original post, he would always be close by and bring only warm, sweet dreams. A bear on the moon fits that job. It's a picture people already link with lullabies and bedtime.
Teddy bears got their name in 1902, after a hunting story about President Theodore Roosevelt. People still want one that is theirs alone.

The bear is sewn from soft, short-pile cream plush. The muzzle and the tummy circle are white plush, set in by hand. A tuft of black faux fur on top copies the spiky hair from the drawing. We never use natural fur.
He has small black eyes and a black nose, both sewn on. His shorts are a separate piece of bright green plush, gathered at the legs.
The moon is pale yellow plush, stuffed firm so it stands and holds the bear. The blue star rides on a thin stem in his paw.

A drawing shows one side, so first we work out the rest and draw a pattern for your toy alone. Then we sew the bear and shape his face. The props take their own time: the moon has to stand up on its own.
Before shipping, you get photos of the finished toy next to your drawing and can ask for changes. If you need it by a certain date, say so in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Once the toy leaves the studio, delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country, the carrier and customs.
