This rainbow monster began as a drawing. A long neck, a round belly, four short legs and a grin with far too many teeth. We turned that picture into a rainbow monster plush, sewn by hand and made to order for the one person who asked for it.

We don't keep a shelf of ready-made monsters. Each toy here starts with somebody's picture, and it gets made once.

Cute, and a little bit toothy

The best monster drawings are never fully scary and never fully sweet. This one smiles with its whole face. Two small black eyes sit right on top of the head, and under them the mouth opens wide, red inside, lined with rounded white teeth top and bottom. It looks like it just heard good news.

Then there's the colour. The monster is sewn in vertical rainbow panels that run from the tip of the head down the neck and belly: pink, coral red, orange, yellow, soft green and blue. Each leg picks up one of those colours, so from every side you see a different mix.

How a drawing becomes a handmade monster plush

A drawing shows a creature from one side. A plush has to work from all of them. So we start with a design: how long the neck is, how the legs hold it up, where the seams go so the stripes stay straight. You check it and say yes before any fabric is cut.

Materials used

The rainbow monster is sewn from premium soft plush with a short, smooth pile. Short pile matters on a toy like this: the seams between the colours stay sharp, and the rainbow reads as clean stripes instead of a fuzzy blur.

Six colours of fabric go into it, pink, coral red, orange, yellow, soft green and blue, each one cut as a separate panel. Inside there's hypoallergenic filling, packed firmly enough in the legs that the monster stands up on its own, and soft in the belly for hugging.

Lead time

A plush monster from a drawing usually takes 2–4 weeks. The range leaves room for the small surprises that come with anything made by hand.

The first part is the design. We work out the parts your drawing doesn't show, like the back, the legs and how the neck holds the head, and you approve it before we start sewing. Then come the pattern, the colour panels cut one by one, and the face with its row of teeth.

You get photos of the finished toy before it's packed. If it's a present for a birthday or the holidays, tell us the date when you ask for a quote and we'll say straight away whether it fits.

Delivery

We ship worldwide. Once the monster leaves the workshop, delivery can take up to 20 business days, and sometimes it arrives in just 7. It depends on your country, the carrier and the shipping method.

Around Christmas and other holidays, couriers everywhere get busy and parcels slow down. If the toy has to arrive by a certain day, keep that in mind when you order.

It travels in eco-friendly wrapping with a handmade story card about how it was made, so it's ready to hand over as a gift. The simplest plan: mention your date at the start, and we'll plan the sewing and the shipping together.
