He already wore the picture on his skin: a big bear holding a small hedgehog close. For his girlfriend he wanted the same hug in a form she could hold. So this needle felted bear and hedgehog was made to order from his tattoo, for one couple and nobody else.

A tattoo that became a toy

A tattoo is flat and a toy isn't, so the drawing was only the start. The bear had to be big and heavy enough to wrap around the hedgehog, and the hedgehog small enough to disappear into the hug.

The bear is felted from brown wool, fuzzy all over, with a lighter muzzle, a black nose, amber eyes under heavy brows and pale claws. The hedgehog snuggles into his chest with its eyes closed and a small smile. It has pink cheeks, a pale grey face and belly, long brown-and-cream spines and a little green flower on its head.

The secret pocket

There's one detail you can't see at first. The hedgehog holds a small red heart in its paw, and the bear has a hidden pocket in his chest made just for it.

So the hedgehog really can take the bear's heart and keep it. It's a small, sweet way to say something about love, and only the two of them know the whole story behind it.

Materials used

Both animals are needle felted from wool. Felting means working loose wool with a barbed needle, thousands of times, until it firms up into a shape. Instead of sewing fabric pieces together, the bear and the hedgehog are built up layer by layer.

That's why the bear's coat looks like real fur, fuzzy and slightly uneven, and why the hedgehog's spines stand up in fine separate strands.

Lead time

A felted composition like this usually takes 2–4 weeks. The range leaves room for the surprises handmade work always brings.

We start from your tattoo or drawing and agree the look with you. Then the felting begins, and it's slow: every shape, every claw and every spine is worked by hand with a needle. Two figures that have to fit together in one hug take extra care.

You get photos of the finished toy before it's packed, so you see your pair before it travels.

Delivery

We ship worldwide. Once your toy leaves us, delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country, the courier and your customs office.

Around Christmas, Valentine's Day and other holidays the post slows down everywhere. If the gift has to arrive for an anniversary, a birthday or a proposal, add some spare time.
