This beaver plush comes from a film about a man who could only talk through a puppet. We sewed it in 2011, made to order, after the beaver from The Beaver. There was no pattern and no official toy to copy. Just film stills and a lot of shaggy brown faux fur.
The puppet that did the talking
The Beaver came out in 2011. Jodie Foster directed it, and Mel Gibson plays Walter Black, a depressed toy company boss who starts talking to everyone through a beaver hand puppet. The beaver has a Cockney accent and much better people skills than Walter.
A lot of viewers fell for that beaver. Soon a rumour went round that a beaver like this helps a lot against the blues. That's how our Beaver toy was born.
What we kept from the film
The film beaver looks a bit worn and a bit startled, and that's what we went for. He has long shaggy fur, a big shiny black nose and two white buck teeth over a pink tongue. His brown eyes sit at slightly different heights, which gives him that "did I just say that out loud?" face. Long dark whiskers, a cream belly and tan paw pads finish him off. At the back there's a wide, flat, dark brown tail, quilted like a real beaver's.
The still from the film is the last picture in the gallery, so you can compare.
Your own beaver plush
Want a beaver from a film, a cartoon, a team logo or your own sketch? Send us the pictures. We sew each toy for one person, in the size you choose, so it doesn't have to look like anything already on a shelf. A custom beaver plush like this one starts from $370.
We're an independent studio. This toy is fan-made, not official merchandise of The Beaver or Summit Entertainment.
More film friends: Ted, the foul-mouthed teddy, Flat Eric and the rest of our TV show and movie characters.
The Beaver is sewn from long-pile faux fur in warm chocolate brown. It's shaggy on purpose: the film puppet looks a little rumpled, and a smooth plush would lose that.
- Belly: short, soft cream plush
- Paw pads: light tan plush, sewn in as separate pieces
- Tail: dark brown fur, wide and flat, quilted with stitch lines
- Face: big glossy black nose, two white buck teeth, pink tongue, brown eyes, long dark whiskers
The filling is hypoallergenic, firm enough for him to sit up on his own. Want a different shade of brown, a longer tail or a bigger size? Say so in your first message. On request we can also add a sound module, so your beaver can say a line of your choice.
A beaver plush like this usually takes 2–4 weeks.
We start with the pattern. A film character is only seen from a few angles, so we work out the head, the muzzle and that flat tail from the stills you send. Then cutting the fur so the pile runs the right way, sewing and stuffing. The face goes last, because the teeth, nose and eyes decide the whole expression.
The time frame includes a reserve for handmade surprises. If you need the toy for a birthday or a movie night, give us the date when you write.
We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Around the holidays mail slows down, so allow a few extra days.
Planning a gift? Count back from the day: making time plus shipping. For Christmas, order by November 1.
Before we pack him, you get photos of the finished beaver to approve. If you want the teeth bigger or the whiskers longer, that's the moment to say it.
We've been sewing toys of film and cartoon characters since 2009. With a character like this, the face is everything, so we check it against your pictures before anything ships.
You see photos of the finished toy first. If you still don't love it when it arrives, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.
Only have a blurry screenshot from the movie? That's fine to start with. We'll ask about anything that isn't clear.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
