What do you give a traffic police officer for his birthday? In 2018 we got that exact question, and the answer was a small copy of him in his own uniform. This police officer doll was sewn from his photos as a portrait doll, made to order for one person. We called it his personal assistant.

His face, his uniform
The face is painted by hand: brown eyes with a little shine, thick dark brows, pink cheeks and a calm half smile. Short dark hair shows under the cap, and the ears are sewn on separately.
The uniform is where the hours went. A blue jacket with a working zip and four flap pockets. White reflective bands across the chest and the waist, neon yellow-green piping on the sleeves. Round patches on both shoulders, epaulettes with stars, and a name strip on the chest that reads "ДПС ГИБДД", the Russian traffic police. The blue cap has a white band and the round cockade on the front. The trousers carry the same stripes down the side.
Who else could wear a uniform
Ask anyone hunting for a gift for a police officer and you hear the same thing: he already has the mugs, the plaques and the shadow box with his patch. A doll of him is a different kind of gift. It sits on a desk at the station or on a shelf at home, and everyone knows who it is.

The head and hands are sewn from skin-tone fabric, and the face is painted by hand: eyes, brows, cheeks and lips. Short dark hair peeks out from under the cap.
The uniform is a real small garment, not printed on. The jacket has a metal zip, stitched flap pockets, white reflective tape and neon trim. The patches, epaulettes and the chest name strip are made one by one, and so is the cockade on the cap.

A portrait doll in uniform usually takes 2-4 weeks. That figure has some spare time built in, because handwork doesn't always go to plan.
First we make the face and check it against your photos. Then come the body, the hair and the uniform, which takes longest here: every pocket, stripe and patch is cut and sewn at this small scale.
You get photos of the finished doll before it ships, and you can ask for changes then. If you have a birthday or a retirement date, say so in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Once the doll leaves the studio, delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier.
Holidays slow the post down, and the weeks before Christmas most of all. For a Christmas gift, order by November 1. For a birthday or a retirement party, add a few spare days to the plan.
