The Oriki started as three little clay monsters. A customer sculpted them by hand: a red one with horns and a toothy grin, a blue one with teardrop eyes, a green one with a pom-pom on its head. Next they were sketched on paper, keyring and all. In 2019 we sewed them as custom keychain plushies, made to order for that one customer. Nothing here comes off a shelf. You send the figure, the drawing or just the idea, and we build the toy from it.
From clay to sketch to plush
Clay is a great way to invent a character. Push out a horn, squash a belly, try another face in a minute. It just doesn't survive a pocket. A custom plush keychain does. It's soft and light, and it rides on your keys or your bag every day.
Before any sewing, every Orik went through a sketch with the keyring drawn right on its head. On paper you can see what a lumpy figure needs to work as a small hanging toy, so the pattern was cut from the drawings rather than from the clay.
What carried over from the clay
- Red Orik: two horns with yellow pom-pom tips, yellow eyes under angry brows, a row of white teeth
- Blue Orik: pale-blue teardrop patches under sleepy eyes, a small frown, spiky little feet
- Green Orik: a pointed head with a red pom-pom, big red-and-white eyes, lime-green ears and red paws
Each one fits in a palm and hangs from a metal keyring.
Your character as a keychain
Maybe you have a clay creature from art class, an OC that lives in your sketchbook, or a doodle your kid draws on every page. Any of them can become a plush keychain or a bag charm. Send photos from a few sides, or the drawing. We can change the size, add an embroidered name or a small sound module. Before it ships, you get photos of the finished toy.
More original characters we've sewn are here, along with other plush made from drawings and the Cup Monster keychain, which started from a coffee cup.
The Oriki are sewn from soft fleece in the colours of the clay: deep red, royal blue with pale-blue patches, and two greens. Teeth, eye patches and paw tips are separate pieces stitched on by hand, so the faces stay clean on a toy this small.
Pom-poms tip the horns and the green Orik's head. Its eyes are black beads; the mouths and brows are stitched in thread. The filling is hypoallergenic and packed firm, so each one keeps its shape on the ring.
- A metal keyring on a twisted cord
- Any fabric colour, and faux fur where a character needs it
- On request: an embroidered name or a sound module
A set of plush keychains usually takes 2β4 weeks.
Small doesn't mean quick. Short arms and tiny horns are turned and stuffed by hand, and a face the size of a coin leaves no room for a crooked stitch. With the Oriki the sketches came first, then the patterns, then the sewing.
The time frame has a small reserve for handmade surprises. If you need your keychains by a certain date, mention it in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7β20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier, and it can run longer around the holidays.
Keychain plushies make easy gifts: for the friend who made the clay original, for a birthday, for a whole group, one character each. Add the making time to delivery and count back from your date. For Christmas, order by November 1.
Before anything ships, we send you photos of the finished keychains, so you know exactly what's on the way.
We've sewn custom plush since 2009, and plenty of it started as things that were never meant to be toys: a coffee cup, a doodle, a lump of clay.
You see photos of your keychains before they ship and can check each face against your original. If you still don't love them, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.
Not sure your figure has too much detail for a keychain? Send a photo and ask. We'll tell you what works at that size before any fabric is cut.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
