In Russian, solnyshko means "little sun", and it's also what you call someone you love. Mom says it to a sleepy kid. Couples say it to each other. So when we finished this sun plush in March 2010, our whole note about it was one line: here's the spring sunshine we ended up with.
He was made to order, like everything we sew. There's no shelf of suns waiting to ship. Yours would be sewn from your idea, your sketch or your kid's drawing.
A face you can't stay grumpy at
Most sun toys are a yellow circle with a smile stitched on. This one has a personality:
- a big shaggy mane of long yellow faux fur instead of rays
- an orange face with a proper nose and a sprinkle of freckles
- heavy-lidded eyes with blue irises, glancing sideways
- round red cheeks and a wide white grin
- two thin arms: one hand on his cheek, the other waving hello
The matchbox in the photo is there for scale. He's a big round cushion, the kind you hug on the couch or prop against the pillows, not a keychain.
Your sun, your rules
We filed him with our toys made from drawings, and that's the easiest way to start yours. Draw the face you want, even roughly. A sleepy sun, a sun in sunglasses, a sun and moon pair, a smaller one for a desk. Pick a size on the order form or tell us how big. We'll draw a pattern from your sketch and agree on fabrics and colors with you before anything gets cut.
You see photos of the finished toy before it ships. If your character is more than a sun, look at our original character plush and other plush made from drawings, like the googly-eyed Comet Bumblebee.
Most of this sun is fur, and that's the point. It hides the round shape and turns him into one big fluffy hug.
- Long-pile yellow faux fur for the mane all around the face
- Orange fleece for the face, nose, eyelids, arms and hands
- Red cheeks and a white smile sewn on as separate pieces
- Eyes with blue irises under stitched lids, and small freckles on the nose
The filling is soft and hypoallergenic, so he works as a real cushion. We only use faux fur, never real fur. Colors, fur length and size can follow your sketch. On request we can add wire in the arms so he holds a wave, a sound module or an embroidered name.
A sun like this usually takes 2–4 weeks.
We start with the pattern: a round body that has to stay round under all that fur. Then the face goes together piece by piece. Nose, lids, cheeks and smile are cut and placed by hand, because a few millimetres decide whether he grins or smirks. The mane comes last and gets trimmed around the face.
The time frame keeps a small reserve for handmade surprises. If you need him by a date, tell us in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Around the holidays parcels move slower, so leave extra time.
A sun makes a good gift for the person you already call "sunshine", or for anyone stuck in a grey winter. Add the making time to the delivery time and count back from your date. For Christmas, order by November 1.
Before he ships you get photos of the finished toy. We pack him so the fur and the arms arrive in shape.
We've been sewing custom plush since 2009, and this sun is from our early years. Funny faces from a quick sketch are still some of our favorite orders.
You agree on the details with us before we sew, and you see photos of the finished toy before it ships. If you still don't love him, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
