Someone drew a little flock of winter birds and asked us to sew them. We made four. Three tall red birds stand on long brown legs in knitted hats and scarves, and a round one sits at their feet. It's a Christmas bird plush set, and every bird was made to order from the customer's drawing. None of them came off a shelf.
Bullfinches, dressed for snow
We call them bullfinches. In Russian the bird is snegir, from the word for snow, because it shows up in gardens when real winter starts and eats the red rowan berries. A red breast on white snow is the classic picture on Russian New Year cards, the way the robin is on British Christmas cards.
Our birds are the cheerful version of that card. The tallest wears a striped red hat with pompom ear flaps and a grey-and-red scarf with a fringe. Another has a cream bobble hat and white zigzag stitches on its chest and wings, like a sweater pattern. The smallest of the tall ones has white eye patches, a Santa hat with a holly leaf and a bright green scarf. All three have yellow beaks, black bead eyes, tails of long red strips and big brown feet.
The round one is closer to a real bullfinch: black cap, brown back, red face and breast, white belly. Small enough to sit under a tree.
Your bird, from your drawing
Send us a sketch, a holiday card you love or a photo of the bird at your feeder. A child's drawing works too. Tell us the size, the hat, the scarf colours, maybe a name to stitch on. Order one bird or a whole flock for the family. The price is per bird, from $375 each.
Before anything ships, you get photos of the finished birds and can ask for changes. More toys sewn from sketches are in our plush from drawings, including a sleepy owl that also started as a winter gift.
The tall birds are sewn from soft red plush fabric, with yellow felt beaks and black bead eyes. Their legs and feet are brown, firm enough for each bird to stand on its own.
- Knitted hats and scarves, with fringe on the scarves
- Fluffy white pompoms and a fluffy Santa-hat brim
- White stitched zigzags on the chest and wings of the cream-hat bird
- A small felt holly leaf on the Santa hat
- Tails cut as long red fabric strips
The round bullfinch is softer and smoother, in red, brown, black and white plush. The tall birds work best standing on a shelf or under the tree. Want different colours, a hat of your own design or a stitched name? Ask.
One bird like these usually takes 2–4 weeks. A flock can take longer, and we'll give you the time with the quote.
The face takes the most care. The beak angle and the distance between the eyes decide whether a bird looks curious, sleepy or cheeky. The hats and scarves are separate pieces, fitted to each bird's head and neck.
The estimate keeps a small reserve for handmade surprises. If the birds are a gift for a set date, put it in your first message so we can plan around it.
Once your birds are finished, shipping takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country. Around the holidays the post slows down, so allow a few extra days.
These are Christmas birds, and December is when couriers are busiest. For Christmas, order by November 1. More holiday ideas are on our custom Christmas plush page.
Before they leave, we send you photos of the finished birds. Check the hats, the scarves and the faces, and tell us if anything should change. They ship after you say yes.
We've been making toys to order since 2009, many of them from drawings. A drawing leaves room to guess, so we show you the result before it goes anywhere.
You see every bird in photos first. There's still time to change a hat, a scarf colour or the shape of a beak.
And if the birds arrive and you don't love them, you get a full refund within 14 days. No long explanations needed.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
