A customer sent us a drawing of a bright blue bear with a huge grin. We turned it into this blue bear plush, sewn by hand and made to order for that one person. We posted him in June 2014.
He came dressed, too. The customer's bear wears a sailor-striped top, plaid trousers and felt clogs with little holes, made to look like Crocs. A white baseball cap sits on top at a slight angle.
What we built
Take the clothes off and you see the bear himself: bright blue plush with a white muzzle, white tummy and white inside the ears. A spiky blue tuft sticks up between the ears like a bad-hair day.
The face does most of the talking. Big glossy blue eyes, a shiny black nose and a wide open mouth, red inside, as if he's about to laugh. His white hands have five separate fingers, and one of them is always waving.
The outfit is sewn separately, so it comes off. That makes him a teddy bear with removable clothes: he can wear the stripes and plaid on a shelf, or go back to plain blue for a hug.
Your drawing, sewn
A drawing only shows one side of a character. Our job is to work out the rest: how the head sits on the body, what the back of the ears looks like, how thick the fingers should be so they still read as a cartoon hand. Then we pick fabrics close to the colours on paper and build the pattern from scratch.
Clothes work the same way. Draw a T-shirt, a cap or a pair of sneakers and we'll sew them in a size that fits your toy. Before the toy ships, you get photos and can ask for changes.
Have a character of your own, or one your kid drew? Have a look at more plush made from drawings and OC plush, or at Sleepy Bear, another bear we sewed from a picture. Then send us yours.
The bear is sewn from a short-pile blue plush with white plush for the muzzle, tummy, ear insides and hands.
The eyes are glossy and blue, with a black outline, and the nose is a smooth black shape that catches the light. Inside the open mouth there's a red lining, which gives him that mid-laugh face.
- Outfit: sailor-striped top, blue plaid trousers, white cap
- Shoes: white felt clogs with little holes, like Crocs
- Stuffing: soft, hypoallergenic filling, firm enough for him to stand
For your own bear we can match other colours, add a name or initials, or sew any outfit you draw. Sound modules, LED lights and poseable wire limbs are possible on request.
A bear like this usually takes 2β4 weeks.
The pattern comes first. A drawing is flat, so we work on the shapes until the head, ears and hands look the way they do on paper. Then come sewing, stuffing and the face details, all by hand.
Clothes add a little time, since each piece gets its own small pattern. The timing includes a safety margin for handmade surprises. Before shipping we send you photos, so you see the finished bear first.
We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7β20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier.
Around the holidays, mail slows down. For Christmas, please place your order by November 1 so the toy has time to be sewn and to travel.
If the bear is a birthday present, count back from the date: about 2β4 weeks of sewing plus delivery time. When you write to us, mention the deadline and we'll tell you honestly if it fits.
We've been sewing custom plush since 2009, and a lot of those toys started as a drawing on a sheet of paper, just like this bear.
You see your toy before it leaves us. We send photos of the finished bear, and if something doesn't match your drawing, we fix it.
And if the toy arrives and you don't love it, you get a full refund within 14 days. No questions about why. A character you drew yourself should come out right.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
