A real otter, with one good hat
Otters belong to the weasel family. There are 13 species, all with long, slim bodies, short legs and a thick, strong tail they use for swimming. We kept that build. He has a long tail behind him, a white chin and cheeks, and pale paws with every finger shaped separately. His eyes are black and glossy. His whiskers are long and thin, the way real ones look up close.
Then there's the boater. It's felted from beige wool to look like straw, with a black band and a little gold bee on the front. The hat comes off. Without it he's simply an otter. With it he looks like he's off to row a boat on a Sunday afternoon.
Your otter, your detail
People who love otters tend to collect them. A row of them on a desk. One they've slept with since they were small. An old toy a parent bought them that they still think about. If otters are your animal, this is a way to get one that nobody else has.

This otter is needle felted from wool. Loose wool gets worked with a barbed needle again and again until it firms up into shape, so he can stand on his own two feet.
- Olive-brown wool for the body and tail, darker brown on the head
- White wool for the muzzle, cheeks and throat
- Tan wool for the paws, with separate fingers and toes
- Black glossy eyes and long thin whiskers
- A removable boater felted from beige wool, with a black band and a small gold bee
Felted wool keeps a soft, fuzzy surface, but the toy itself is firm. It's closer to a little sculpture for a shelf than a pillow to squeeze. Want an otter to hug instead? We can sew one from faux fur.
A felted otter like this usually takes 2–4 weeks.
The face needs the most care. The white cheeks have to sit just right, or he stops looking like an otter and starts looking like a seal. The paws are shaped finger by finger, and the hat is felted as a separate piece so it can come off.
The estimate keeps a small reserve for handmade surprises. If he's a birthday present, put the date in your first message so we can plan around it.
Once your otter is finished, shipping takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country. Around the holidays the post slows down, so allow a few extra days.
