This Misha Olympic bear plush is a copy of the bear from the 1980 Moscow Olympics, the one a lot of people had on a shelf as kids. We sewed it by hand, made to order, as a replica of a childhood Misha. Nobody here keeps a stock of Mishas. Each one starts with a request and the photos you send.
The bear with the gold rings
Misha was drawn by Viktor Chizhikov, an illustrator of children's books, and became the mascot of the 1980 Summer Games. At the closing ceremony a giant Misha floated out of the stadium on balloons while the crowd in the stands held up cards that showed him shedding a tear. One coach said later that half the stadium was crying.
The toys from back then had one thing in common: the belt. Our Misha wears a striped belt in blue, yellow, black, green and red, with five big gold rings on his tummy, each one shaped by hand. He also has the black mask around the eyes, a white muzzle with a stitched smile, a glossy black nose and black claws on all four paws. We've sewn Misha more than once, and each came out a bit different, from a shaggy long-pile bear to a plain brown one with no belt at all.
Why a copy and not an old one
You can hunt for a vintage Misha, but forty-year-old toys turn up faded, flattened and smelling of somebody else's attic. And it won't be yours anyway. A replica is sewn new, in fresh faux fur, to look like the bear you remember: same proportions, same belt, same slightly lopsided grin.
Send whatever you have: an old family photo, a picture of a similar toy, even a postcard of the 1980 Misha. Tell us the size you want, and you get photos of the finished bear to approve before it ships.
More toys we've brought back are in Lost Toy Replicas, like this childhood Webby from the 90s. For more Soviet-era nostalgia, there's our Leopold the Cat plush.
We are an independent studio, not official Olympic merchandise. Every piece is sewn by hand to a private order.
Misha is sewn from curly faux fur in two browns: dark chocolate for the head, arms and legs, and a lighter caramel for the belly, the inner ears and the soles. The mask around the eyes is black curly faux fur, and the muzzle is soft white plush with the smile stitched in black thread.
The nose is glossy black. The belt is made of colored stripes, and the five gold rings on top are shaped and painted by hand, so no two Mishas get quite the same rings.
- Premium, hypoallergenic faux fur and fabrics
- Soft filling, firm enough for Misha to stand
- Any size you like, or the size of the bear you remember
Want a name embroidered on a foot? Just ask.
An Olympic Misha replica usually takes 2 to 4 weeks.
We start with your photos and pick the fur so the two browns sit right next to each other. Then the pattern: the big round head, the ears, the V on the chest. The face and the belt take the longest, because the mask, the smile and the rings are what make people say "that's him."
If your photo is old or blurry, we may ask a couple of questions on the way. The time includes a small reserve for surprises, which every handmade toy has.
We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country. Around the holidays the post slows down, so leave some extra time.
Misha works well as a birthday surprise for someone born in the late 70s or 80s, or as a gift for a parent who still talks about the 1980 Games. Planning one for Christmas? Order by November 1 so he arrives in time.
Before we pack him, you get photos of the finished bear to approve. He goes in the box only after your OK.
We have been sewing custom plush toys since 2009, and bringing back childhood toys is one of the things people ask us for most.
You see Misha in photos before he ships and can ask for changes. If he arrives and isn't the bear you remember, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.
A childhood toy can't be bought again in a shop. So we'd rather spend an extra evening on the rings than send a bear that's only "close enough."

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
