Two bullfinch plush birds, years apart, and they don't look much alike. Both have the red breast and the black cap. After that they go their own ways. Each one was sewn to order for one person. We don't keep ready toys on a shelf. We make the bird you ask for.
The true-to-life one
This bullfinch is from 2011, and he follows the real bird closely. A male bullfinch has a red breast, a black cap, a grey back, a white patch above the tail and black wings with one white bar. All of that is here, down to a little flash of orange under the wing. The tail is long and black and lies flat behind him. The matchbox next to him is there for scale.
The fluffy one
The second bird is from 2018, and he's louder. The breast is long, shaggy red faux fur, round as a ball. The beak is big and glossy. The wings and the fanned-out tail are royal blue with red stripes, so from behind he looks more like a parrot than a finch.
A winter bird
In Russia the bullfinch is called snegir, and people link the name with sneg, snow. The birds turn up in town with the first frosts, red against the snow, so you see them on a lot of winter cards there. Our Christmas birds in knit hats are bullfinches too, sewn from a drawing.

The realistic bullfinch has short faux fur in red and light grey, white plush for the rump, and smooth black fabric for the cap, the wings and the long tail. The wing bar is a strip of white. Glass eyes, a short black beak and small black feet finish him.
The fluffy one uses long-pile shaggy faux fur: red on the breast, royal blue with red stripes on the wings and tail, a bit of grey and white on the back. The cap is soft black plush and the beak is a large, glossy black shape.
- Faux fur only, short or long pile
- Glass eyes
- Wire in the legs or tail for posing, on request
For your bird we match fabrics to your photos or drawing.
A bullfinch usually takes 2-4 weeks, with a small reserve for handwork surprises.
The color patches take the time. Red, grey, white and black have to meet in clean lines, or the bird stops looking like a bullfinch. On a long-pile bird like the striped one, every stripe is pieced in by hand and the fur is combed out at the seams.
You get photos of the finished bird before it ships. If you need it by a date, tell us in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Once your bullfinch leaves the studio, delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier.
A bullfinch is a winter bird, so many people want one under the tree. December is the slowest month for the post. For Christmas, order by November 1. More ideas are on our custom Christmas plush page.
For a birthday or any other date, tell us when you need it and we'll say right away whether sewing and shipping fit.
We've been sewing toys to order since 2009. With a bird like this we check the markings first: the cap, the red breast and the wing bar have to sit where a bullfinch has them.
You see photos of your bullfinch before it's packed and can ask for changes then. If it arrives and you don't love it, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
