The famous polar bear from the cartoon Bernard, loved by kids and grown-ups alike, turned into a soft toy and moved into someone's home. That's how we announced this Bernard bear plush back in March 2012. He was made to order for one customer, like every toy we sew. Nothing here sits in a warehouse waiting for you.
The bear who never says a word
If you grew up with this show, you probably remember it as "that foreign cartoon about a polar bear". In Korea he's Backkom, in Spain he's Berni. The series came out of a Spanish and Korean co-production, with BRB Internacional among the studios. Each episode runs about three minutes and has no dialogue at all. Bernard grunts, gets curious about something, tries it, and ends up flat on the floor. His friends are Lloyd and Eva the penguins, Zack the lizard and Goliath the chihuahua. People still talk about the way he stares straight out of the screen at you.
Every silly detail, sewn in
We built the toy around his face, because that's where the joke lives. Two huge eyes with blue irises sit high on the head, each in its own puffy socket. The black nose is a big glossy wedge. The red tongue hangs out of an open mouth, just like in the cartoon. There's even the little tuft of hair on top of his head.
The body is soft grey plush with a white belly and a tiny belly button. The paws have white pads and long black claws, and the arms spread wide as if he's about to explain something he doesn't understand. The matchbox in the photo shows the scale.

Bernard is sewn from soft, short-pile grey plush, which keeps his outline smooth and cartoon-like instead of shaggy. The belly, the paw pads and the soles of his feet are white plush, stitched in as separate panels so the colours stay crisp.
The eyes are big white domes with glossy blue irises and dark lids, so he gets that slightly startled look. The nose is a firm black shape with a shine to it. The tongue is bright red, and the long claws are black.
All our materials are premium and hypoallergenic. If you'd like him whiter or greyer than ours, we match the shade to your screenshots.

A custom Bernard bear usually takes 2–4 weeks. We keep a few spare days in that estimate, because hand sewing doesn't always go to plan.
Each order gets its own pattern. Most of the time goes into the head. The size and angle of the eyes, the length of the snout and the position of that tongue decide whether he looks like Bernard or like any grey bear. After that come the claws, the paw pads and the final stitching.
You get photos of the finished toy before it ships. If he's for a birthday or another date, mention it in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Once Bernard leaves the studio, delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier.
Parcels slow down around the holidays, so leave a few extra days if he's a gift. For Christmas, order by November 1.
He travels well packed so his eyes, nose and claws arrive in shape. Give him a gentle fluff when you unpack him.
