Ask anyone who grew up with Soviet cartoons about Cheburashka and watch their face. This Cheburashka plush is big and made for hugging: dark brown faux fur, two huge round ears, glossy eyes looking up at you and a small red smile. We sewed him by hand, made to order. We don't keep a shelf of ready Cheburashkas. Each one starts with somebody's message, and yours would be sewn for you.

We first showed this one in spring 2022, for everyone who still loves the old Soviet cartoons.

Who Cheburashka is

Eduard Uspensky made him up in the mid-1960s for his book Gena the Crocodile and His Friends. In the story nobody knows what kind of animal he is. He turns up in a crate of oranges, and the grocery store manager who finds him sets him on a table. He keeps toppling over, and that's his name: the old Russian word cheburakhnutsya means "to topple". Then he finds a best friend, Gena the crocodile.

In 1969 Roman Kachanov turned the book into a stop-motion film at Soyuzmultfilm. The puppet's huge ears and wide eyes stuck, and that's the Cheburashka people picture today.

What we kept from the cartoon

The ears come first. They're as wide as his whole body, round, dark brown, with a softer hollow inside. If they shrink, he turns into a teddy bear. The face is smooth beige plush with two dot eyebrows and a black triangle nose. The eyes are big and black with white rims, and they look up a little, hopeful. He has a rust-brown patch on his belly, small dark claws and short round feet he can stand on.

Your Cheburashka

  • Any size, from a shelf toy to a big one like this
  • Darker or lighter brown fur, longer or shorter pile
  • A sound module, if you want him to sing
  • A wire frame in the arms, so he holds a pose

Send us a still from the cartoon or a photo of the Cheburashka you remember, and say what matters most. You see photos of the finished toy before it ships. A Cheburashka plush like this starts from $365, and the quote is free.

He has old friends here: our big Leopold the Cat plush, the Kitten Named Woof and more cartoon plush. We're an independent studio, not official Soyuzmultfilm.

Cheburashka's head, body, arms, legs and ears are dark chocolate-brown faux fur. It's soft and thick, and you can hug him with both arms. The face is smooth beige plush, and the belly patch is a shorter rust-brown fur.

  • Big glossy black eyes with white rims
  • Dot eyebrows, a black triangle nose and a red smile
  • Small dark claws on both hands

The filling is soft and hypoallergenic. We only use faux fur, never real fur. For your Cheburashka we match the colours to your pictures. A sound module or a wire frame in the arms can go in on request.

A Cheburashka plush usually takes 2-4 weeks. A very big one can take a little longer.

The ears and the eyes take the most time. The ears have to be wide and round and sit just right on the head. The eyes have to look up at the same angle, or the face loses that hopeful look.

You get photos of the finished toy before it ships. If you need him by a certain date, tell us in your first message.

We ship worldwide. Once Cheburashka leaves the studio, delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country.

The post slows down before the holidays, and December is the slowest month. For Christmas, order by November 1. More ideas are on our custom Christmas plush page.

He's a warm gift for parents or grandparents who grew up on the cartoon, or for a friend far from home. Tell us the date, and we'll say straight away if sewing and shipping fit.

We've sewn toys to order since 2009, and old Soviet cartoon characters come up a lot. People often can't find the one they remember.

You see photos of your Cheburashka before he's packed and can ask for changes then. That's the moment to say if the ears should be bigger or the fur a shade darker.

If he arrives and you don't love him, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Why?

No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.

Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.

Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.

You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.

One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.

That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
