An orange kitten with a brown face and huge blue eyes, and a white puppy with one black ear. If you grew up with Soviet TV, you already know who they are. This is our Kitten Named Woof plush and his best friend Sharik, sewn by hand in 2017.

We don't sell ready toys off a shelf. Every Woof and every Sharik is made to order, for one person and the way they remember the cartoon. The price is per toy: order the kitten alone, the puppy alone, or the two together.

A kitten with a dog's name

A Kitten Named Woof (Котёнок по имени Гав) came out of Soyuzmultfilm in five short episodes between 1976 and 1982. Grigory Oster wrote it from his own stories, and Lev Atamanov directed the first four. The plot is tiny. A kitten is called Woof, the old yard cat warns that a name like that means nothing but trouble, and the kitten goes off to find out what trouble is.

He finds it with Sharik, the puppy from next door. They sit out a thunderstorm in the attic, because it's less scary when you're scared together. They eat one sausage from both ends and meet in the middle. Woof licks the moon's reflection in a puddle and decides the moon is tasty. People still trade those scenes as stickers and GIFs.

How we made the pair

Woof is short orange plush with a chocolate-brown face mask, brown tail and brown front paws. His ears are lined in cream and edged in brown. The glossy blue eyes and thin black whiskers give him that wide-open cartoon look. He stands on four legs, mouth a little open, as if he just heard his name.

Sharik is soft white plush with one black ear, one white one, a dark spot over his eye and another on his back. He has a shiny black nose, a cartoon eye with a stitched brow, and his head tipped up like he's waiting for the next adventure.

Your Woof and Sharik

Tell us the size you want and send the frame from the episode you love most. The attic, the roof, the sausage. We draw the pattern from it and agree on fabrics with you before we start, and you see photos of the finished toys before they ship.

From the same Soviet TV evenings: the Nu, Pogodi! Wolf, Leopold the Cat and more toys from animated films.

Another cartoon kitten with a funny name: our felted Chi from Chi's Sweet Home.

SKAZKODROM is an independent studio, not connected to Soyuzmultfilm or the cartoon's rights owners. We sew one-off fan toys.

Both friends are sewn from premium short-pile plush and filled with hypoallergenic stuffing. They're firm enough to stand on their own four legs and still soft when you pick them up.

  • Woof: bright orange plush, a chocolate-brown face mask, tail and paw tips, cream-lined ears with brown edges, glossy blue eyes, a black nose and thin black whiskers
  • Sharik: white plush, one black ear, a dark spot over the eye and on the back, a glossy black nose and a cartoon eye with a stitched brow

The colours come from the cartoon, so we match them by eye against a still you send. Want Woof a bit more ginger, Sharik's spots bigger, or a name tag on a collar? Say so in your order and we'll sew it in.

A Woof or a Sharik usually takes 2–4 weeks to make. A pair can take a little longer, since it's two patterns and two faces.

Most of the time goes into the heads. Woof's big round face, the brown mask and where his blue eyes sit decide whether he looks like the kitten from the cartoon or like any orange cat. Sharik's tipped-up head and lopsided ears need the same care.

The time includes a small reserve, because handmade work sometimes needs one more try. Have a birthday or an anniversary in mind? Put the date in your first message.

We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier.

Parcels slow down before the holidays. For Christmas, order by November 1.

Woof and Sharik make a good gift for two friends who've been through a few thunderstorms together, or for anyone who still sends Woof stickers in their chats. Split the pair: one keeps the kitten, the other the puppy. Add the making time to the delivery time and count back from the day you want to hand them over.

Before we ship, you get photos of your finished toys.

We've been sewing toys to order since 2009. Childhood cartoon characters are a tough job, because people remember every detail. One wrong shade of orange and it isn't Woof anymore.

That's why you see photos of your kitten and puppy before they leave us. If they arrive and you don't love them, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Not sure which size to pick, or whether to order one friend or both? Send us the frame you like and we'll tell you honestly what will work.

Why?

No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.

Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.

Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.

You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.

One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.

That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
