Mouth wide open, tail straight up, one paw already reaching for something. That's Chi, and that's how we felted her. This Chi's Sweet Home plush is needle felted from wool: grey-blue fur with black tabby stripes, a white face and paws, and those huge round eyes. She's small enough to hold in one hand. Every Chi we make is made to order. Nothing waits on a shelf here. Yours would be felted for you, from your pictures.
We first showed this Chi in 2015.
Who Chi is
Chi comes from Konami Kanata's manga Chi's Sweet Home, which ran in Kodansha's Morning magazine from 2004 to 2015. Madhouse turned it into a short anime in 2008. The story is simple. A tiny grey-and-white kitten wanders away from her mother on a walk and gets lost. A boy, Yohei, and his mom find her and take her home to the Yamada family's flat. Pets aren't allowed in the building, so they have to hide her.
Her name is an accident. While they're teaching her to use the litter box, she answers to "chi", a word close to the Japanese for pee. It sticks.
What we kept from the manga
The face does most of the work. The eyes are two big black circles with a white ring and a black outline, like ink on paper. The mouth is drawn on in black, open in a laugh, pink inside, with two tiny fangs. The black stripes go over her head, back and sides the way Kanata draws them. Her ears are pink inside with thin dark lines. The tail is striped in rings and ends in black. Long white whiskers stick out on both sides. Under her paws there are pink toe beans, so she looks right even upside down in your hand.
Your Chi
- Any size, from a palm-sized Chi like this one to a bigger one
- Needle felted wool like this, or a soft sewn plush in faux fur
- Colours matched to your favourite picture of her
- A wire frame inside, so the legs and tail hold a pose
Send us a panel from the manga or a still from the anime and tell us which Chi you mean, the laughing one or the sleepy one. You see photos of the finished toy before it ships. A Chi like this starts from $340, and the quote is free.
She has company here: our felted Puss in Boots, the Kitten Named Woof and more custom anime plush. We're an independent studio, not official Kodansha.
Chi is needle felted by hand from wool. Wool gets worked with a felting needle until it's firm and holds its shape. The grey-blue, white, black and pink are all wool.
- Big round eyes with white rings and black outlines
- An open mouth with a pink inside and two tiny fangs
- Long thin white whiskers
- Pink toe beans under every paw
Felted wool is firm, so a felted Chi is more for the shelf and the hand than for squeezing in bed. If you want one to hug, we can sew her as a soft plush in faux fur instead. We only use faux fur, never real fur.
A felted Chi usually takes 2-4 weeks. A bigger one can take a little longer.
The face takes the most time. The eye rings have to be even, and the mouth line has to sit just right, or the laugh turns into a shout.
You get photos of the finished toy before it ships. If you need her by a certain date, tell us in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Once Chi leaves the studio, delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country.
The post slows down before the holidays, and December is the slowest month. For Christmas, order by November 1. More ideas are on our custom Christmas plush page.
She's a sweet gift for someone who read the manga, watched the anime, or just has a grey tabby of their own at home. Tell us the date, and we'll say straight away if felting and shipping fit.
We've made toys to order since 2009, and anime characters come up often.
You see photos of your Chi before she's packed and can ask for changes then. That's the moment to say if the stripes should be thicker or the eyes a bit bigger.
If she arrives and you don't love her, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
