A koala who meditates
He won us over with his calm. Everyone in the studio said the same thing when he was finished: he looks like he's meditating. The kindness in that face is the first thing you notice. Closed eyes, a soft smile, a small white chin.
Real koalas earned that sleepy reputation. They live only in Australia, eat eucalyptus leaves and sleep 18 to 22 hours a day to save energy. They aren't bears either. They're marsupials, closer to wombats and kangaroos. Ours keeps the sleepy mood and adds a little fantasy.
Look at the hands
Long grey fingers and toes, every one dotted with turquoise spots and tipped with a small white claw. He folds his front paws over his feet, like someone settling in for a long quiet sit. The same blue shows on the edges of his ears, as if frost landed there and stayed.
We photographed him in the snow in early 2015, next to two other creatures from that winter: a red one with huge ears and a fluffy tail, and a black one with four eyes. They're all in the gallery.

His body, arms and ears are long-pile faux fur in pale beige and grey, with blue brushed into the ear tips. The face is smooth and light grey, with closed sleeping eyes, a dark nose ringed in turquoise and a small white chin.

The long fur makes him soft to hold. The smooth face and hands keep the small details clear, so the spots and claws read from across the room. For yours we can change the fur, the colours and the size, and add a wire frame for poseable fingers.
A creature like this usually takes 2-4 weeks, plus a little spare time, because handwork doesn't always keep to a schedule.
Most of that time goes into the face and the hands. Every spot and claw goes on by hand, one at a time, and the fur around the face has to be shaped so the smile stays easy to see. The body is the quicker part.
You get photos of the finished toy before it ships, and you can ask for changes then. If you need him by a certain date, tell us in your first message.
