We've made her twice. The first in 2014, while the meme was everywhere. The second in 2018, as a different cat with the same mood.
The cat behind the meme
Her real name was Tardar Sauce. She was born in Morristown, Arizona, in April 2012, and that September her owner's brother posted her photo on Reddit. The face did the rest. Her look came from feline dwarfism and an underbite, so she wasn't actually angry. She just looked it. Two years later she had her own Lifetime movie, Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever, voiced by Aubrey Plaza. She died in May 2019, and fans still write that they miss her. A plush is how a lot of them keep her around, since you can't have the real thing.
Two grumpy cats we made
- 2014: the meme cat herself, lying down with her front paws out. Long cream and tan faux fur, dark ears and tail, blue eyes, a pink nose and long whiskers.
- 2018: a fluffy grey and white kitten sewn from a photo of a real grumpy-looking kitten. He sits with his tail around him, frowning, with blue eyes and dark stripes on his paw pads. Grumpy, and still sweet to hold.

A grumpy face only works if the coat looks real, so we use premium faux fur in layers. Never real fur.

The filling is hypoallergenic. Colors can match the meme or your own cat. On request we add a wire frame so the cat holds a pose, a collar with a name tag, or a sound module.
A Grumpy Cat plush usually takes 2–4 weeks.
We start with the pattern and the body, then lay out the coat colors, trimming the faux fur so the mask sits where it should. The face takes the longest. Move the eyes a millimeter or tilt the mouth the wrong way and she stops looking grumpy and starts looking sad.
The time frame has a small reserve for handmade surprises, so if you have a date in mind, put it in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Around the holidays parcels move slower.
Grumpy Cat had her own Christmas movie, so she fits under a tree. For Christmas, order by November 1. For a birthday, add the making time to the delivery time and count back from the date.
Before she leaves the studio, you get photos of the finished toy. We pack her so the fur and the whiskers arrive in shape.
We've been making custom plush since 2009. A meme toy is a tough test: everyone knows the face, so a wrong frown shows straight away.
