What do you give a boss you actually like? If his favourite animal is the hedgehog, the answer is obvious. You give him a hedgehog. A big one. This giant hedgehog plush stands 1.2 meters (about 4 feet) tall, and we sewed it by hand in 2010, made to order as a gift for one company's Big Boss. Nobody had one ready. We drew, cut and sewed him for that one office.
A hedgehog with a pocket for cognac
The detail that made the order: a breast pocket on his chest, sized for a bottle of good cognac. In the photos he holds the bottle in his long, soft fingers, eyes rolled up to the ceiling, with a smile that says he knows more than he lets on.
Now picture it. The director comes in one morning, opens his office door, and behind his big boss desk, in his own chair, sits a hedgehog. With a bottle. That's when he realizes today is a special day and it's time to relax a little.
What we sewed
A wild European hedgehog is about 20 to 30 cm long. Ours is four times taller and much better dressed. His back is a thick coat of brown and tan faux fur for the spines, his tummy and face are soft golden plush, and his brown-lined ears stick out to the sides. Blue eyes, a black nose, wrinkles on the snout. He wears white socks and black lace-up shoes, so he sits in an office chair like he owns it.

The spines are long brown and tan faux fur, thick enough to look prickly from across the room and soft when you lean on them. The face, belly, arms and legs are golden plush, with darker faux fur around the ears and the edge of the coat.
The eyes are big and blue, set to look up and to the side, and the nose is a shiny black dome. The white socks and black lace-up shoes are sewn on as real clothes. The chest pocket holds a full-size bottle.
At 1.2 meters the body is stuffed firmly, so he sits upright in a chair and doesn't slump over by lunchtime. All our materials are premium and hypoallergenic, and we only ever use faux fur.

A giant hedgehog plush usually takes 2–4 weeks. The time frame has a small reserve, because handwork at this size doesn't always go to plan.
We draw the pattern at full size from your picture first. A big toy needs it, or the head ends up too small for the body. Then come the faux fur coat, the face and the eyes, which decide whether he looks sly or just sleepy.
You get photos of the finished hedgehog before he ships. Is he for a birthday or a company anniversary? Give us the date in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Once he leaves the studio, delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the courier. A 1.2 m hedgehog travels in a big box, so tell us the delivery address early, office or home.
Parcels move slower around the holidays. For an office surprise on a set date, count the making time and shipping together and add a few spare days. For Christmas, order by November 1.
