This platypus plush wears a silver medal on a pale pink ribbon. The words on it are handwritten in Russian: «Если потеряемся, встретимся на Луне». In English: "If we get lost, let's meet on the Moon."
We don't know who wrote it or who it was for, and we won't make that part up. It reads like a promise between two people, and the platypus got the job of keeping it.
Like everything in our studio, this platypus was made to order. We don't keep a shelf of ready toys. You tell us what you want and we sew it for you, one toy at a time.
What he looks like
He's a soft, warm brown all over, with a dark chocolate bill that's a little floppy at the tip. His eyes are big and glossy, cartoon style, so he looks a bit surprised. Four dark webbed feet with tiny pointed claws, and a flat tail behind him. He sits up on his own, legs out in front, like he's waiting for someone.
Why a platypus
Platypuses are odd in the best way. They live in eastern Australia and Tasmania, lay eggs, and find food underwater with a bill that picks up the tiny electric signals of their prey. Males even have venomous spurs on their back legs. When the first one reached Britain in 1799, some scientists suspected somebody had stitched a duck's bill onto a fur pelt as a prank. We stitched the bill on for real.
Your platypus, your words
The medal is what makes this toy personal. Yours can say anything: a name, a date, an inside joke, a line only the two of you understand. We can make a medal, a tag or a little scarf to carry it. The platypus itself can change too: a different shade of brown, a smaller or bigger size, a sleepy face instead of a surprised one.
Send us a photo, a drawing or a few words. You get a free quote first and photos of the finished toy before it ships. A platypus like this starts from $365. More ideas on the love gift plush page, or browse our other custom stuffed animals, like this otter in a hat.
This platypus is soft to hold and simple to look at, so the fabrics do most of the work.
- Short-pile plush in warm brown for the body, head, legs and tail
- a darker brown suede-like fabric for the bill and the webbed feet, with small sewn claws
- large glossy eyes in black and white
- a round silver-and-grey medal, stitched around the edge, with the words written in black
- a thin pale pink satin ribbon tied in a bow
Want a fluffier faux fur, an embroidered message instead of a written one, or a ribbon in your favorite color? Tell us, and we'll show you the fabrics before we start.
A platypus plush like this one usually takes 2–4 weeks to make.
First we agree on the look: the shade of brown, the size, the eyes, and what goes on the medal. Then we make the pattern and sew the body, the legs and that flat tail. The bill and the eyes come last, because they decide the whole face.
The time frame keeps a small reserve for handmade surprises. If you need your platypus for a birthday or an anniversary, say so in your first message.
Once your platypus is finished, shipping usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country. Mail slows down around the holidays, so give it a few extra days then.
Planning to give it for Christmas? Order by November 1.
Before we send anything, you get photos of the finished toy. Check the bill, the eyes and every word on the medal. We ship after you say it's right.
We've been sewing toys to order since 2009. A toy with words on it has one extra thing to get right, and that's the words.
You see your platypus in photos before it ships. Read the medal, look at the bill and the ribbon, and ask for changes if something is off. Small changes like that are part of the job.
If the toy arrives and you don't love it, tell us within 14 days and you get a full refund.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
